DescriptionThe whole story▼
Cross-country racing, as it is run across North America, mixes open fields, motocross-style sections and long stretches of tight woods in a single lap. The Husqvarna FX 450 was built for that kind of racing, and one moment comes round again and again: the hard braking at the end of a fast field where the course funnels into the trees. Accossato lists its B8283 folding brake lever for the FX 450 of 2017. It is CNC-machined in Italy from Ergal 7075, with a short blade for three fingers and a joint that allows it to fold.
Key Features
- Folding brake lever for the Husqvarna FX 450, 2017 model year

- Short blade for three fingers
- Anti-break joint allows the blade to fold forward in a crash
- CNC-machined from solid Ergal 7075 in Italy
- Blade in black, blue or orange
- No German ABE documented; for off-road competition
Construction and Material Quality
Low weight is one of the three aims Accossato names for its off-road levers, alongside strength and reliability, and on a bike raced for hours at a time every part is expected to earn its place. The B8283 is CNC-machined in Italy from solid Ergal 7075, a high-strength aluminium alloy. It has a dark base on the pivot of the FX 450's original front brake master cylinder and a blade, in black, blue or orange, joined to the base by the folding joint. The blade is Accossato's short brake shape, designed for three fingers.
Into the Tree Line
The field sections of a cross-country course are where a 450 can run flat out, often in top gear, with the rider sitting down to rest the legs. Then the course markers pinch together, a single gap opens between the trees and the speed has to come off in a hurry. The ground at that point is usually the worst on the lap: braking bumps from every rider before you, loose soil thrown up by hard acceleration, sometimes a hidden rut. The front brake does most of the work, and using it hard without locking the wheel is a skill in itself.
Races like these last two or three hours, and concentration slips as the laps go by. A misjudged braking point at the tree line puts the bike down with speed, and a trackside tree or stump can meet the brake lever. The joint on the B8283 gives the blade the chance to fold forward instead of breaking, so the rider has a better chance of getting the FX 450 back in the race with a brake lever still attached. A heavy crash can defeat any lever, of course, but in a long race where every minute counts, even a better chance is valuable.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the B8283 for the Husqvarna FX 450 of the 2017 model year, where it fits the original front brake master cylinder in place of the stock lever. Other years of the FX 450 are not part of this listing. The matching clutch lever is the C7284, also listed for 2017, and both can be ordered in black, blue or orange.
Road Approval
The B8283 has no documented German ABE. It is intended for off-road competition such as cross-country racing, the purpose for which the FX 450 was built.
