DescriptionThe whole story▼

The Honda CRF250RX is the cross-country version of Honda's 250 four-stroke motocross bike, built for races that leave the prepared track and run through woods, fields and farm tracks. On a damp morning the open grass sections are often the most treacherous part of the lap. Accossato's B8207 is a folding brake lever for the CRF250RX of 2019 to 2022, machined in Italy from Ergal 7075. If the front tyre loses its grip and the bike goes down, its joint gives the blade the option of folding forward.

Key Features

  • Folding brake lever for the Honda CRF250RX, model years 2019 to 2022
  • Fits in place of the original lever on the stock master cylinder
  • Blade can fold forward on its anti-break joint
  • Three-finger brake blade, shorter than the clutch lever
  • CNC-machined in Italy from Ergal 7075
  • Dark base, black or red blade
  • No German ABE documented; for off-road competition

Construction and Material Quality

Of the three qualities Accossato lists for its off-road levers, strength and low weight are the obvious ones. The third, reliability, matters most in a long race, where a lever has to work the same way on the last lap as on the first. The B8207 is milled on CNC machines in Italy from a solid block of Ergal 7075, a high-strength aluminium alloy. Its dark base holds the pivot, its blade comes in black or red, and a joint connects the two. As a brake lever it is short, laid out for three fingers.

Wet Grass in the Open Fields

Grass looks harmless and rides like ice when it is wet. On a cross-country loop the first riders through flatten it into a slick green film, and a front tyre that meets that film while braking can simply stop turning. The trick on the CRF250RX is to do most of the slowing before the grass begins, on the dirt of the approach, and to use the front brake only gently once you are on it, keeping the bike upright and letting the rear brake and the engine do more of the work. Where the course turns on grass, follow the lines already cut through to the soil rather than the untouched green.

Even riders who know all this lose the front on grass now and then. The fall is quick but usually soft, a low slide onto one side, and the brake lever takes its share of the contact. With a solid lever the blade can bend or break against a hidden stone or a fence post. The joint on the B8207 lets it fold forward instead, which gives you a fair chance of rejoining with a front brake that still works. It is a chance, not a certainty, but in a race lasting a couple of hours, one more lap with a proper brake is worth having.

Fitment and Compatibility

Accossato lists the B8207 for the Honda CRF250RX from 2019 to 2022, fitted in place of the original lever on the stock front brake master cylinder. The C7210 folding clutch lever covers the same four model years, so both sides of the bike can be fitted from this range, in black or in red.

Road Approval

There is no documented German ABE for this brake lever. It is sold for off-road competition, the purpose for which the CRF250RX itself is built.
