DescriptionThe whole story

On an MT-07 the front end tells you everything, including when the pad has had enough. ZCOO's shape here is the S001: 50.5 mm tall, 69.5 mm long, 8.8 mm deep. What is new on the Yamaha MT-07 is the compound - EXR, on a backing plate alloy specified with it.

Key Features

  • Developed on the same ceramic platform ZCOO supplies to endurance teams at Suzuka and the Bol d'Or
  • The friction blocks are separated so the S001 material can expand into the gaps rather than against itself
  • Lever feel on the MT-07 stays linear from the first millimetre of travel to full pressure
  • Country of origin Japan; ZCOO does not source its friction material outside its own plant
  • Ceramic sintering keeps the coefficient of friction stable across the temperature swing a MT-07 sees in a single descent
  • Wear stays even across the 69.5 mm of friction face rather than concentrating at the leading edge

Construction and Material Quality

There is nothing improvised about how a S001 is put together. Bonding, not gluing: the ceramic layer of the S001 is fused to the plate under pressure. Both details exist so the S001 keeps its pressure distribution honest as it wears down.

Performance and Feel

For an MT-07 the interesting number is not the first bite but what is left at the end of the zone. The reworked progression is what keeps the additional force usable at full lean. A grabby pad on a short-wheelbase MT-07 is not merely uncomfortable - it is destabilising.

Fitment and Compatibility

The 2026 listing puts the S001 on the Yamaha MT-07 for the 2014 to 2026 model years. ZCOO lists no rear pad for the MT-07. Before ordering, check that your caliper takes a pad of 69.5 mm length and 50.5 mm height. The same S001 shape covers 27 further machines in the 2026 catalogue.

Road Approval

No ECE R90 type approval is documented for this pad. It appears neither in ZCOO's own catalogue nor on the European distributor's site, and no approval number is printed on the packaging data available to us. ZCOO itself describes the compound as suited to competition machines and road machines alike, but that is a description of the mixture, not a type approval. Until the distributor confirms an approval in writing, treat this as a track and competition part: in Germany a replacement brake pad without ECE R90 approval may not be fitted to a motorcycle used on public roads. Ask us before ordering if you need this clarified for your machine.
