The middle of the range, not the edge of it

Sprint Filter offers four media across this housing, and the two extremes attract the attention: the standard weave at 5,050 l/m²/sec and the 7-micron mat at 560. This one sits between them at 1,800, and for a machine that meets dust often but does not live in it, that is usually the right place to be. It costs less than the standard element, which means the decision is genuinely about conditions rather than budget — the price list is not steering anyone here.

What it does not do

It does not add power. In an unmodified airbox the PM189P14 leaves a standard Apache RR310 exactly as strong as it was, and any element that claimed otherwise would be describing a different machine. What it does is reduce and stabilise the intake restriction across the service interval, keep oil away from the intake entirely, and remove a consumable from the maintenance list. On a bike ridden hard in dusty conditions, the second and third of those matter more than they sound.

Care and cleaning

Compressed air on the clean face of the PM189P14, worked outwards, is the routine; in dusty use it is worth doing more often than the manual's interval suggests. Lukewarm water with a mild detergent handles what air will not, rinsed until the runoff is clear. Dry the mat in moving air at room temperature and by no other means — heat destroys a nonwoven invisibly. It goes back in dry, with nothing applied. The maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab.
