Three media are catalogued for this airbox, and this is the coarsest of the three. Eighty-five microns is a wider aperture than the standard element's eighty, and six times the fourteen of the nonwoven listed for dusty conditions. That is the correct way round for what a racing cloth is drawn to do, and it is also the clearest signal of where it should not be sent. A dry back road in August, a gravel approach, a stretch of resurfacing: those conditions already have their own element in this same catalogue, and it is not the one on this page.
Key Features
- The coarsest of the three media offered for this housing: 85 microns
- Rated at 15,000 l/m²/sec, the highest flow figure Sprint Filter publishes
- Dry woven polyester, unoiled from manufacture and unoiled after every wash
- Direct fit in the series SRK 600 RS airbox, without modification or remapping
- Roughly twice the filtering fabric of an ordinary performance element
- Retention of 95.22 % on 100-micron particles; two years of warranty
Coarse on purpose
An aperture is a decision about what gets to pass, and this one has been opened deliberately so that air can. That is defensible on a circuit, where the surface is swept, the sessions are short and the demand on the intake is unusually sustained. It is a poorer decision on a summer evening behind a tractor. The rating does not adapt to the conditions in front of it, and no element does — the adaptation is the owner's job, made once, when the box is open and there is a choice of cloth in front of them.
The other end of the same box
The span across the three is wider than most riders expect: 85 microns and 15,000 l/m²/sec at this end, 14 microns and 1,800 at the other, so roughly six times the aperture and more than eight times the rated flow, out of one frame in one housing. That is the trade laid out at full length — retention and throughput moving in opposite directions, with no medium anywhere escaping it. Two further things are worth being blunt about. This cloth is catalogued at close to three and a half times the standard element, and none of the three makes a standard SRK 600 RS noticeably stronger. A drop-in element cannot, and the racing one is no exception.
Care and cleaning
Compressed air does the work: hold it to the clean face and move outwards, so the weave releases what it caught back the way it came. If a wet ride has left a film that air cannot take, lukewarm water and a small amount of mild detergent will, followed by a proper rinse. Then moving air and time, never heat, and the PM209S F1-85 goes back dry with nothing applied to it. The maintenance sheet is filed under Downloads.
Fitment & Compatibility
