Suzuki has put the Katana name on machines separated by decades, and even inside the modern revival there is a line that matters more than the badge. The Katana built from 2019 to 2022 shares its intake with the GSX-S 1000 of those same years, which is why one Sprint Filter element covers both, while the reworked Katana that followed is listed separately. For an owner that has a consequence: the name on the tank is not a part number, and shopping by it is the reliable way to end up with a part that looks right and does not fit. On this generation the part is the P08 PM91S, and with reasonable care it is the last air filter the motorcycle needs.
Key Features
- Woven polyester, dry from the first mile: no oil to soak up and none to reapply
- Filtration at 80 microns, airflow of 5,050 litres per square metre per second
- Around twice the media area of a typical element, so the weave stays tight
- Sits in the untouched standard airbox: no bodywork changes, no fuelling changes
- Cleaned and refitted for as long as you own the bike, not binned each service
- Two years of Sprint Filter cover from the purchase date
Why the model year decides, not the name
Sprint Filter groups this element around an airbox, not a name, and the grouping is worth reading before ordering. Three Suzuki machines built between 2009 and 2022 come under the PM91S, and the Katana is on it for 2019 to 2022 only; the same name from 2022 onwards belongs to a different entry. That is easy to lose on a used bike, which usually arrives with a box of spares and no paperwork explaining what any of it was for. The model year on the registration document settles it, and the Fitment tab lists the whole set.
Dry cloth, and the trade a mesh makes
Every medium buys retention with flow; that is a trade, not a ranking. The P08 is the open end of the Sprint Filter range at 80 microns and 5,050 litres per square metre per second; P037 at 37 microns, P14 at 14 and T12 at 7 each hold more back and let less through, which is what you want in dust or on gravel, not on a road bike. The P08 keeps resistance low through surface area instead: about twice the media of a typical high-flow element, not a coarser mesh. In the manufacturer's comparison it retains 93.13 per cent of 100-micron particles against 76.42 for four-layer oiled cotton — and it does that dry, woven from polyester thread of 22 microns and upwards, with nothing tacky in the intake tract.
Care and cleaning
Blow the PM91S out from the clean side so the dirt leaves by the face it entered, and refit it dry. After a wet or long season, wash it in lukewarm water with a mild detergent, rinse until the water runs clear and leave it in moving air until every fold is dry. Keep it away from heat and flame. The maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
Made for the Suzuki Katana of 2019 to 2022, a straight exchange for the standard element in the unmodified airbox. Two further Suzuki models built between 2009 and 2021 take the same filter, three machines in all; the Fitment tab has the complete list.
