Most Sprint Filter part numbers cover a shelf full of motorcycles: a platform, three displacements, a decade of model years. PM201S covers two. The CBR650R and the naked CB650R, both 2019 to 2026, are the same engine in different clothing, and the airbox they share is the reason one panel serves both. That narrowness is worth something when buying: the element was cut to a single housing instead of being sized to suit a family of them, and the fairing, the clip-ons and the model-year changes between the two machines sit outside the job it was given.
Key Features
- Single-layer polyester cloth used dry — no oil in the system to dose, dry or wipe off a sensor later
- 80 µm filtration with 5,050 l/m²/sec of flow, the balance Sprint Filter chose for road and track
- Thread diameter from ø 22 microns upward — a figure about the fibre, not the gaps between fibres
- Around double the filtering cloth of other performance elements
- Goes in exactly where the paper panel came out, intake tract and ECU calibration left alone
- Washed and refitted rather than replaced, with two years of Sprint Filter cover
One airbox, two motorcycles
Honda gave the CBR650R a full fairing, lower bars and a sportier riding position, and left the intake side alone. For an air filter that is the only part of the specification that counts. The panel cannot tell which machine it sits in, and has no need to: what arrives is road air, drawn by the same engine at the same speeds. The fitment question is unusually short. If the motorcycle is a 650 four from these model years, PM201S belongs in it — no sub-variant to check, no split at a facelift, no separate code for the faired version.
What the element does, and what it does not
The honest version: this will not make a 650 four faster. Standard airbox, exhaust and mapping set the ceiling; a filter sits well below it. What woven cloth changes is the behaviour of the intake restriction over time. A paper panel is at its lowest resistance on day one and drifts upward from there, gently enough that nobody notices until it is swapped. Cloth returns to its own starting point instead, as often as you care to. The flow figure describes the medium, not the motorcycle — it is capacity, and this engine draws only the share it asks for. On a road bike the number doing the real work is the other one: the 80 µm that decides what gets past.
Care and cleaning
Servicing the PM201S is a dry job. Air first: the nozzle goes on the clean face, and the dirt leaves the way it arrived. After a wet or dusty summer, lukewarm water with a mild detergent is allowed too; rinse until nothing more washes out, then let it dry in open air. Heat destroys this medium, so no hairdryer, no heat gun, no flame. It must be fully dry going back in, and it goes back as it is — nothing to re-oil, nothing to top up. Sprint Filter's cleaning sheet sits in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
