The naked boxer can wear the RS-lettered housing too. The JP CO BM018RS replaces the R1200R's combined throttle and switch assembly with a milled Ergal body.

A Badge From the Family, Not the Model
The R1200R is not an RS, and some owners will stop reading there. Others take the view that the letters identify the boxer roadster family that BMW built the R, RS and RT from, and that a machined designation on the cockpit of a naked bike is a reasonable piece of decoration. Both positions are defensible; the unlettered version exists for the first.
The Roadster in the Middle
Between the faired RS and the fully dressed RT sits the R: same engine, same frame, nothing over it. It is the version that shows the boxer's architecture most clearly, and the one most often chosen by riders who already know what a boxer feels like and want as little as possible between them and it.
Machined Detail on an Exposed Cockpit
With no fairing, the area around the handlebar is fully visible and forms a large part of how the motorcycle reads. A component cut from solid aluminium with lettering milled into it changes that view considerably more than its size suggests, which is why cockpit parts are among the first things owners of naked bikes replace.
What Comes Off With It
The standard assembly carries the right-hand switches inside the throttle housing. Both are replaced together by this unit, which plugs into the original BMW connector. The ride modes, heated grips and cruise control on equipped bikes all continue to work unchanged.
The Alternative Without Letters
An identical housing with a plain flank is listed separately, and on a roadster it is arguably the more honest choice. Both are the same component otherwise, and the decision costs nothing either way.
What Milling Buys
Cut from solid rather than moulded, the body has no joint across it and no clipped halves. Under a boxer's low-frequency pulse, which loosens things that an inline four leaves alone, that construction is worth more than it would be on another engine layout.
