DescriptionThe whole story▼
Rally-style riding puts the rear brake under a load that no road bike would recognise. A Beta RR 390 4T covering long stages of sand and broken stone uses the pedal continuously to steady the back end, and by the end of a stage the caliper holds as much of the course as the air filter does. Accossato's Off-road sintered (STMX) material exists for that kind of day, and it fills the AGPP106 shape listed for the rear wheel of the RR 390 from 2015 to 2019.
Key Features
- Rear pads for the Beta RR 390 4T, model years 2015 to 2019
- Article number AGPP106STMX: the AGPP106 shape in Accossato's STMX material
- Accossato's compound for riders whose ground is sand, dust and soil
- For long off-road stages, events and days in the dirt
- Two pads to a box, the set the rear caliper takes
- The same shape is also available in the OR and ST materials
- Front of this Beta: AGPA51, listed for 2015 to 2021, plus the DK017 brake disc
- No German ABE on file; sold for competition and off-road riding
Construction and Material Quality
Rather than describing a recipe, Accossato identifies an audience for the STMX material: the rider who is off the tarmac. That is the honest way to put it, because what defines the application is contamination rather than temperature. Sand gets into the caliper and stays there, working against the friction face on every rotation of the wheel, and the pad has to carry on doing its job regardless. The AGPP106 outline is the same one used for the road materials, so it fits the rear caliper of the RR 390 4T without any change of routine.
Sand, Stones and Long Stages
Sand asks for the rear brake in a way that firm ground never does. The bike wallows, the front wheel wanders, and the rider holds the machine straight on the throttle and the pedal together, trimming the speed rather than stopping. Hours of that leave the material worn in an unfamiliar pattern, and a stony section afterwards finishes the job, because the grit thrown up by the rear wheel goes straight into the gap between pad and disc. Long stages are simply more of the same.
Servicing between stages is worth doing properly. Get the worst of the sand out of the caliper before any water goes near it, then rinse from a distance and let it drain. Check both pads, look for an unevenly worn pair as a sign that a piston is sticking, and clean each piston before pressing it back. After fitting new pads, press the pedal until it comes up firm, then bring the bike gently up to speed on the first easy section so the material settles against the disc before it is needed.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato covers the rear of the Beta RR 390 from 2015 to 2019 with this pad, while the front listing for the AGPA51 continues to 2021. Owners of a machine from the last two seasons of that run should therefore order the two ends separately rather than assuming one entry covers both. A caliper takes two pads, the box holds two, and they are replaced together. The DK017 disc is listed for the model for anyone renewing the pairing completely.
Road Approval
There is no German ABE for the AGPP106STMX and no test paperwork to accompany it. Its place is at events and on closed ground rather than on the road.
