DescriptionThe whole story▼

On a Yamaha R3 the straights are where the rider's shape shows. A small-capacity sports bike has no power to spare, so the air a rider pushes through becomes a real factor, and a tidy tuck makes a noticeable difference. That is why riders in the 300 racing classes practise folding themselves behind the screen as carefully as they practise braking. Accossato's FT069 is an adjustable aluminium rearset for the R3 from 2015 to 2018. It moves the feet further back than stock and allows standard or reversed shifting.

Key Features

  • Adjustable rearsets for the Yamaha R3, 2015 to 2018
  • Aluminium, designed to be simple and functional
  • Knurled pegs; knurled tips on gear lever and brake pedal
  • Aluminium heel plates
  • Rearward foot position compared with the stock parts
  • Standard or reversed gear shift
  • All black or black with blue details
  • No German ABE documented; for circuit riding

Construction and Material Quality

The FT069 is an aluminium rearset in the simple, functional style Accossato describes. Its footpegs are knurled, the gear lever and brake pedal have knurled tips, and aluminium heel guards shield the heels. Accossato states that the set is adjustable; how the adjustment works is not part of its description, and we won't claim more. The shift can be arranged in the conventional pattern or reversed for racing, and the kit comes in all black or with blue details on black.

Folding Up for the Straight

A good tuck on a small sports bike starts with the lower body. The balls of the feet go on the pegs, the heels come in against the heel guards and the knees squeeze the tank, so that the legs offer as little surface to the wind as possible. The upper body then drops, chin towards the tank, elbows in behind the fairing. Taller riders in particular find it hard to fold their legs out of the airflow on a small bike, and rearward pegs make it easier to bring the legs in close. On the straight, stay down until your braking marker instead of sitting up early to look at the dashboard. In a close group, a rider who holds a better tuck can also use the slipstream of the bike ahead more effectively and pull out at the end of the straight. These are details, but in classes where many bikes are nearly identical, details decide positions. The R3 rewards riders who get them right.

Fitment and Compatibility

Accossato lists the FT069 for the Yamaha R3 of the 2015 to 2018 model years; later R3 model years are not covered by this listing. Racers usually prefer the reversed pattern, which would be unusual on the road. Workshop installation is recommended so that the linkages are set up correctly, the rear brake has the right free play and the brake light works. Torque values come from Yamaha's service information, with thread locker applied as specified. Before the first session, sit on the R3 on a stand and check that the tuck feels natural.

Road Approval

We know of no German ABE or parts report for the FT069. Use on public roads is therefore not covered, and we sell the kit for the race track.
