A paper element forgives a bad decision, because it leaves the bike at the next service. The SM219S F1-85 does not. Sprint Filter builds it to remain in the motorcycle for as long as the motorcycle lasts, which means whatever is chosen now is what a CB250R breathes through for years. That raises the stakes on the choice itself, and the choice here is a specific one: 85 microns and 15,000 l/m²/sec against the 80 microns and 5,050 of the standard P08. More air through, less held back. Anyone weighing up the racing medium should be clear that the coarser half of that exchange has no expiry date.
Key Features
- The P08 F1-85 fabric: 15,000 l/m²/sec of flow, filtration held at 85 microns
- No oil anywhere in its life, so nothing can creep onto the throttle body or the air sensor
- Far more surface for the air to pass through than a typical performance filter provides
- Drops into the standard airbox unaltered: no cutting, no adapters, no remap
- Cleaned and returned to service instead of replaced, for as long as the bike exists
- Two years of warranty run from the date of purchase
A decision with no expiry date
Consumables are forgiving in a way that permanent parts are not. Fit the wrong paper filter and the mistake is measured in one service interval; fit the wrong permanent one and the only way out is to buy a second element. That alone is a reason to be deliberate. A CB250R is a road motorcycle on road service intervals, and between those intervals the fabric in the airbox is the only thing standing between the engine and everything the road throws up. Choosing one that holds back less is a choice that keeps being made, every day, without any further decision from the owner.
Which way to be wrong
If the medium is going to be wrong, it is better to be wrong in the direction that costs flow than in the direction that costs retention. Nothing on a standard CB250R is asking for 15,000 l/m²/sec; the airbox, the throttle body and the mapping were specified around a far smaller number, so a finer fabric withholds something the engine was never going to use. A coarser one gives away something it uses every second it runs. That asymmetry is why the P08 is the medium most CB250R owners should be looking at, and why the P14 at 14 microns is the better call again on dusty routes. The F1-85 belongs on a machine that is raced and maintained to match.
Care and cleaning
Servicing means compressed air applied against the direction of flow, from the clean face outward, followed by a dry refit: the SM219S F1-85 never goes back damp. Anything the air will not lift comes off with lukewarm water and a mild detergent, rinsed until the water runs clear and dried in the open, well away from heaters and flames. Oil is not part of the procedure and never has been. The Sprint Filter maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
Made for the Honda CB250R from 2018 to 2026. The same SM219S F1-85 element fits all four bikes in the Neo Sports Café line, from 125 to 300; the full list is in the Fitment tab.
