Two promises sit on this product and they are not the same one. Sprint Filter guarantees the element for two years from purchase, which is a statement about how it was made. Separately, it is designed to last the life of the motorcycle, which is a statement about regeneration: a cloth cleaned and refitted rather than used up. The second is the interesting one, because unlike the warranty it depends on what happens in the owner's hands.
Key Features
- A single dry layer of polyester weave, unoiled when new and left unoiled for good
- Woven to 85 µm and rated at 15,000 l/m²/sec, the racing medium in the range
- Retention measured at 95.22 % of 100-micron particles, against 93.13 % for the standard P08
- Roughly double the cloth area of other performance elements, inside the unaltered frame
- A direct exchange for the factory panel: the airbox is untouched and no remap is needed
- Cleaned with compressed air instead of replaced; two years from the purchase date
What actually ends one of these
Not mileage, and not the number of washes. Heat does. Polyester deforms at temperatures a hand calls harmless, and on a woven filter the aperture is the entire specification: a weave pulled out of shape over a radiator no longer measures 85 µm anywhere in particular, and the failure is invisible afterwards. The other way to lose one is to refit it damp, so the airbox holds moisture against it. Both are avoidable and both sit on the owner's side of the line, which is why the lifetime expectation reads as design intent rather than a term of sale. The guarantee covers the part as manufactured; the long life is earned on the drying rack.
The promise it does not make
None of this makes a standard Streetfighter V2 noticeably stronger. Intake, injection and exhaust were signed off together with a filter already in the path, and an element dropped into the untouched housing does not rewrite that work. Choosing between media is choosing a condition, not a rank: this cloth gives up five microns of aperture for three times the rated flow, which is only visible while a large demand is held rather than sampled. The P08 at 80 µm and 5,050 l/m²/sec is the road answer here, with a P14 at 14 µm and 1,800 catalogued for air that carries traffic dust. Finer stops more and passes less; that is the trade.
Care and cleaning
Compressed air from the clean face outwards is the ordinary service for a PM279S F1-85. Water is the exception, not the routine: hand-warm, a little mild detergent, rinsed until the run-off is clear. The element is then left in ambient air as long as drying takes, no heat at any stage and no flame near it, and goes back dry and untreated. The maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
Made for the Ducati Streetfighter V2 of 2025 and 2026, the 890 cc model. The same name was used from 2022 to 2024 for a 955 cc machine on a different part number, so capacity settles the order, not the badge on the tank. Five machines on the current V2 engine share this element; the Fitment tab lists each with its years.
