Sprint Filter SM300S air filter

The facts.

DescriptionThe whole story▼

A sports tourer is loaded differently from the motorcycles it shares an engine with. The 703T ETC has the extra protection and the larger tank for long days, and on those days it often carries a passenger and luggage as well. That does not push the triple to the top of its rev range. It holds it in the middle for hours, at a steady and substantial load. For a filter, that is the most honest test there is: not a flash of peak demand, but a long, even draw through the same element, hour after hour.

Key Features

  • One dry layer of polyester weave, 80 µm rating, threads beginning at 22 µm in diameter
  • Rated at 5,050 l/m²/sec of flow
  • Captures 93.13 % of 100-micron particles, against 76.42 % for four-layer oiled cotton
  • Around double the filtering area of other performance filters
  • Goes straight into the 703T ETC's standard airbox, with no modification and no remap
  • Never oiled, washed and refitted, with two years of warranty from purchase

Why steady load favours a washable element

On a long tour an element collects dirt at a steady rate, and a paper panel responds by growing steadily more restrictive until somebody replaces it — usually at an interval set for average use, not for two weeks across dusty regions. A woven element loads the same way but can be brought back to its starting condition at the end of a trip or at the next service. Roughly twice the filtering area helps in between, because the same load spread over more cloth lies thinner. None of this makes a standard 703T ETC stronger; no element in an unmodified airbox does.

When the T12 is the better call

The 703T ETC is the one machine on this housing for which Sprint Filter also lists the T12, a 7-micron nonwoven for off-road and extreme conditions. That says something about where tourers end up. If a trip includes long unmade roads or dry country where the air is visibly full of dust, the T12 is the element for those weeks, at the cost of most of the flow. For tarmac touring, in any weather, the P08 is the right element and the T12 would be a trade with nothing to show for it.

Care and cleaning

Blow SM300S through from the clean side with compressed air, working outwards so the load leaves the way it came in. After a trip that has left insects and road film on it, wash it in lukewarm water with a little mild detergent and rinse until clear. It dries in moving air at room temperature and nowhere near a heat gun, a radiator or a flame, and goes back in dry. The maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab.

Fitment & Compatibility

For the Zontes 703T ETC of 2026. The same element serves the 703RR of 2025 and 2026 and the 703R ETC of 2026, while the adventure 703F has its own code. All three SM300S machines are listed in the Fitment tab.
