Not the Motorcycle's Electronics
These inputs are read by the I2M dashboard. On a bike still carrying its factory harness the block is inert, whatever else has been changed around it.
A Popular Class Machine
The 899 turns up throughout club racing because it is light, quick and considerably cheaper to run than a litre bike. Grids fill with them for exactly that reason.
Cheaper to Campaign
Tyres, pads and rebuilds all cost less on a middleweight. Racing on a budget is arithmetic before it is anything else and the 899 makes the sums work.
A Marker Button
Assigned in software and pressed at speed. It is the control most used on a data-equipped bike and it sees more operations in a weekend than a horn does in a year.
Military-Grade Contacts
Sealed inside the machined body. Between hot washing and a damp trailer, race switchgear meets more water in a season than road switchgear does in five years.
Black Anodised
Grown into the surface. Competition parts are handled roughly and cleaned aggressively and an anodised finish takes both without complaint.
A Twin-Sided Swingarm
Chosen to save cost and it saved weight as well. For a race build it also makes wheel changes marginally more conventional than on the larger Panigales.
A Monocoque at This Price
Ducati carried the frameless architecture down to the 899 rather than reverting to a trellis. It is why the bike is as light as it is and why routing a race loom takes patience.
Built for Rebuilds
Machined from one block. Nothing clips together, so nothing loosens across a season of stripping and reassembling between rounds.
