DescriptionThe whole story▼
CY20301 is the half of the R9's race tail nobody photographs: the lower section that closes the underside of the seat unit and hides everything the standard rear bodywork used to cover.
Key Features
- Lower closure for the CY20300 race seat unit
- Encloses the rear loom, the electronics and the subframe rails
- Carbon construction with a prepreg inner face, autoclave cured
- Available separately from the upper seat unit
- Buffed weave finish, supplied unlacquered
Not Optional, Even Though It Looks It
A race tail run without its lower section looks purposeful in the paddock and causes problems everywhere else. The underside of a tail is directly in the path of everything the rear tyre picks up, and connectors packed with grit and rubber are one of the most common causes of an intermittent electrical fault that only appears under load. It also matters for scrutineering at some events, where exposed wiring behind the rider is grounds for a comment.
Send Both Halves to the Painter Together
The upper and lower sections of the tail meet along a visible joint, and that joint is where a mismatch shows. Carbon panels from different production batches take colour slightly differently, and a painter working on one half in March and the other in July will not get them to agree without effort. Sending CY20300 and CY20301 to the paint shop as a pair, in the same session, costs nothing and removes the problem entirely. The same applies if a damaged half is replaced later — expect to repaint both.
Assembly Order
The lower section goes on with the upper unit, before the foam and before the bike is put back on its wheels. Fitting it afterwards means working blind through the seat opening, which is how fasteners get cross-threaded into a laminate.
Fitment
For the Yamaha R9, 2024 to 2026, with the CY20300 seat unit.
Road Approval
A racing component, supplied without approval documentation.
