DescriptionThe whole story▼
Ride with friends often enough and you will know the scene. A long, rutted climb, three bikes ahead of you, and halfway up the first one stops. Everyone behind has to stop as well, on a slope, on loose ground, with a big four-stroke underneath them. For the Sherco SEF 450 rider the next minute is all about the clutch. Accossato's C7283 is a folding clutch lever for the SEF 450 of 2015 to 2022, machined in Italy from Ergal 7075, with a long blade for four fingers and a hinge that lets the blade fold if the bike goes down.
Key Features
- Folding clutch lever for the Sherco SEF 450, 2015 to 2022
- Listed by Accossato under the name SE 450 F
- Replaces the stock lever at the original clutch mount on the left of the bar
- Long blade with space for four fingers
- Anti-break hinge allows the blade to fold forward in a fall
- Milled in Italy from solid Ergal 7075
- Black, blue, orange or red blade on a dark base
- No German ABE documented; intended for off-road use
Construction and Material Quality
Every clutch lever in Accossato's off-road range follows the same recipe. A block of Ergal 7075, an aluminium alloy of high strength, is clamped into a CNC machine in Italy, and the lever is cut from it with robustness, dependability and a modest weight in mind. The C7283 consists of two machined parts: a dark base that sits on the pivot and a coloured blade hung from it by a hinge, which is what lets the blade fold. The blade is longer than the one on Accossato's brake lever, giving a four-finger grip room to share the pull.
Stopped on the Climb Behind a Friend
Getting an SEF 450 moving again on a steep, loose slope is a matter of feel. The rear brake holds the bike, the engine idles, and the clutch has to come out just far enough for the rear tyre to bite without spinning or stalling. Too little and the bike rolls back; too much and the tyre digs a hole or the front lifts. Many riders find that release easier to meter with the whole hand on the lever than with two fingers hooked round its end, which is one reason the long blade of the C7283 suits this kind of riding.
Queues on climbs also produce the gentlest and most annoying crashes of the day. A boot slips, the bike leans back against the slope and settles on its left side, clutch lever first, while the rider still holds the bars. It happens at almost no speed, yet a solid lever pinned under the SEF 450 can still bend or break. The hinge on the C7283 lets the blade fold forward under that load. It will not help every time, but when it does, the rider can stand the bike up, fold the blade back into place and try the climb again instead of finishing the ride with a stub of a lever.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the C7283 for the Sherco SEF 450 of 2015 to 2022, under its catalogue name SE 450 F, and fits it at the original clutch mount. The B8283 folding brake lever covers exactly the same years on the right side of the bar. For matching colours on both sides, choose black, blue or orange; red is made only for the clutch lever.
Road Approval
The C7283 has no German ABE. Many SEF 450s are registered for the road, yet this lever is meant for off-road use and competition, and with it fitted the bike is not approved for public roads.
Scope of Delivery
