DescriptionThe whole story▼
The CB500X of 2022 and 2023 was the last to carry that name before Honda replaced it with the NX500. It kept the recipe that made the model popular: an upright crossover with a parallel twin, a tall screen and a seat height that suits many riders but asks more of smaller ones. Shorter riders often have smaller hands too, and a lever set for an average hand leaves them stretching. For these bikes, Accossato makes the EDF018, a machined aluminium brake lever whose reach you can bring in, with a short blade among its three lengths.
Key Features
- Brake lever for the Honda CB500X, 2022 and 2023
- For the original master cylinder
- Adjustable reach brings the blade closer to smaller hands
- Short blade in blue, gold, green, orange or silver
- Standard blade roughly 138 mm; long blade also made
- Aluminium, CNC-machined, anodised; black hub
- Fixed blade without a hinge
- No documented German ABE, sold for track use
Construction and Material Quality
The EDF018 is machined from aluminium rather than cast, then anodised: black for the hub and your chosen colour for the blade. The hub contains the lever's pivot and the reach adjustment. Because the blade is fixed firmly to it rather than hinged, the lever keeps the same position and the same feel however often it is used, and a small hand gets exactly the response it asks for, without any give in between.
Smaller Riders, Closer Lever
Hand size and body size tend to go together, so riders who stand on tiptoe at a junction on the CB500X are often the same riders who struggle to wrap their fingers around a stock lever. The two problems interact. At a stop you want a firm hold on the front brake while one foot searches for the ground, and if the lever is too far away, the grip is weak exactly when the bike is most likely to tip. Bringing the blade closer solves most of this. Set the EDF018 so that the first joint of your fingers rests on the blade with the hand relaxed, then check that you can still pull it firmly without trapping your other fingers against the grip. The short blade is worth considering: it is easier for a small hand to manage and leaves room around the throttle. On the road, the benefit shows in every stop, and it makes the CB500X feel smaller than its stance suggests.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the EDF018 for the CB500X of 2022 and 2023, fitted to the original master cylinder. For the earlier CB500X of 2013 to 2021, its list gives the EDF025 brake lever and the ESH250 clutch lever. From 2024, Honda sold the NX500 in the CB500X's place; for that bike the EDF018 has its own product page.
Road Approval
This lever is sold for track use; a German ABE has not been documented for it.
