DescriptionThe whole story▼
A Panigale 1299 S is built for the circuit, but it still has to get there, and that often means riding through town first. At walking pace, brakes designed to stop a superbike from very high speed feel extremely strong, and with your weight resting on the clip-ons it is easy to squeeze harder than you meant to. Smooth stops at junctions then depend on a lever set for gentle use. The Accossato EDF099 replaces the front brake lever of the 1299 S from 2015 to 2018. It is CNC-machined from aluminium, anodised, adjustable in reach and made in three lengths.
Key Features
- For the Panigale 1299 S, model years 2015 to 2018
- Replaces the lever on the original front master cylinder
- Reach adjustable so two fingers can rest on the blade
- Three blade lengths; standard approximately 138 mm
- Machined aluminium with an anodised finish
- Black hub and blade in one of seven colours
- Fixed lever, no hinge; comes in its own box
Construction and Material Quality
Accossato machines the EDF099 from aluminium and then anodises it, leaving the hub black and giving the blade the colour you order. The lever is one fixed piece from the pivot to the tip. At low speed, where the smallest movement of the fingers already makes a difference, a lever without any play of its own lets you meter the brake precisely.
A Superbike in Town
In slow traffic on a Panigale 1299 S, the aim is to brake so gently that nobody notices, least of all the bike. With two fingers resting on the blade, you can add pressure in tiny steps as you roll up to a junction, rather than reaching for the lever at the last moment and grabbing it. Bring the reach in until your fingers lie on the blade comfortably with your hand relaxed around the grip; on a bike with low bars, that also takes a little weight off the wrists.
One habit is worth keeping at very low speed: when the handlebar is turned, for example in a tight U-turn or when manoeuvring out of a parking space, use the rear brake rather than the front, because a front brake applied with the bars turned can tip the bike over. For everything else, the standard blade is the relaxed choice in town and is made in all seven colours. The short blade, in blue, green, orange, gold or silver, suits riders who spend more of their time on track.
Fitment and Compatibility
This EDF099 is listed by Accossato for the Panigale 1299 S and fits on the bike's original front master cylinder. Accossato's years reach 2020, but production of the 1299 S ended when the Panigale V4 arrived in 2018, so the listing here stops at 2018. For the clutch side of the 1299 S, Accossato has the ESH011.
Road Approval
The lever has no documented German ABE. It is therefore sold only for the race track.
Scope of Delivery
