Accossato gives the EDF016 a finish suited to that life. The lever is milled from solid aluminium and then anodised, which hardens and colours the surface of the metal itself. The hub, holding the pivot and the reach adjuster, is black, and the blade is anodised in one of seven colours. The same is true of the metal expansion joints on bridges and of painted markings. The rule for all of them is simple: finish your braking before you reach them, cross upright with the brake released, and only brake again when both tyres are back on tarmac. Where the road allows it, cross rails as close to a right angle as possible. Trouble on rails often starts with a front wheel that is still braking when it meets the steel. Keeping to the rule is easier when braking feels predictable, and that begins with where the lever sits. With the reach set so that your fingers find the blade without stretching, a short, measured squeeze before the crossing becomes habit rather than effort.
