An air filter is the rare change that leaves no trace. Nothing is cut, nothing drilled, nothing sits where a photograph would find it, and with the bodywork back on there is no way to tell which cloth is in the box. On a machine like the F3 800 Ago — built in a defined edition and quite often kept as much as ridden — that invisibility cuts both ways. What no one can see, no one can record either, and the next owner inherits the gap.
Key Features
- Racing-weave polyester, dry from new, with no oil applied at any stage of its life
- 85 µm aperture and 15,000 l/m²/sec of rated flow, against 80 µm and 5,050 for the standard P08
- Close to double the filtering cloth of other performance elements
- Fits the series airbox as it is — reversible in the time it takes to open the box
- Nothing is consumed: the element is washed and refitted, not replaced
- Two years of guarantee, and a service life counted in cleanings
Keep the panel you take out
The sensible handling for a machine with a number on it is simple. Bag the factory element, label it with the date it came out, and keep it with the papers. The swap can then be undone in minutes, which matters when a bike changes hands and the buyer's first question is what has been altered. It also settles the awkward version of that question: the honest answer is not that a filter was upgraded, but that the specification was deliberately moved, and being able to point at the original part is the difference between a documented choice and an unexplained one.
What the deviation consists of
Stated plainly, so it can be written down: CM135S F1-85 opens the weave from 80 to 85 microns and lifts rated throughput from 5,050 to 15,000 litres per square metre per second, at around two and a half times the price of the standard cloth for the same fitment. That is a racing setting of the same trade, not a better version of the same product — one figure is bought with the other. An Ago that covers a few hundred careful kilometres a year has little use for the throughput and no compensating short service schedule, which makes the plain P08 the closer match to how these machines are actually used.
Care and cleaning
Servicing adds nothing to the medium, which is the whole point of a dry cloth. Compressed air on the clean face, pushed outward, lifts what has been caught; that is the normal interval, done in minutes. Where a longer spell has left a residue, hand-warm water and a mild detergent will take it, followed by a rinse until nothing further washes out. Drying is done by air and patience alone — no heater, no hot-air gun, no flame nearby, because heat is what polyester will not tolerate. It returns to the airbox dry and bare. See the maintenance sheet in Downloads.
