There is no such thing as a racing 250 Duke. KTM's junior racing runs on 125s and its production racing on the RC 390, and from 2017 to 2023 this model was built as a road motorcycle and nothing else. Worth saying on a page selling a racing filter, because the P08 F1-85 is not a superior element in general. It is one specified for a particular set of conditions, and the word in its description describes those conditions rather than paying a compliment to the machine it goes into.
Key Features
- Sprint Filter's racing medium: dry polyester, 85 µm, 15,000 l/m²/sec
- The standard P08 filters at 80 µm and flows 5,050 — finer and slower, by design
- Oil-free throughout: nothing to dose, nothing able to migrate downstream
- Uses the original airbox and the standard fixings, without modification or remap
- Washable for the working life of the machine; two years of warranty from purchase
- For road use on a 250 Duke, the P08 is the element we would recommend
What the specification actually describes
Race conditions are unusual in the ways that decide this choice. The surface is swept, the distances are short, and the engine is opened on a clock measured in hours rather than years — so a builder can accept air that is five microns less well filtered, because the parts paying for it will be inspected long before anything shows. A 250 Duke lives under none of that. It runs for years between major work, on public roads whose dust nobody sweeps, and whatever passes the element does not stop at the bore: it joins the oil and stays in circulation until the next change.
Where the extra flow would have to go
The other half of the trade is just as easy to check. Ten thousand additional litres per square metre per second are only worth having if the engine is short of air, and a 250 single in road trim is not. The P08 passes more than it draws at every point on the rev counter, and the housing in front of it was drawn around the largest engine in this family rather than the smallest. A replacement element makes no standard motorcycle measurably quicker, this one included. What it offers instead is an intake restriction that starts low and can be returned there every time the box is opened.
Care and cleaning
The PM200S F1-85 is cleaned dry and put straight back. Compressed air enters at the clean face and leaves through the dirty one, carrying the load out the way it arrived; on a road bike that deals with most services. Anything left behind comes out in lukewarm water with a mild detergent, rinsed until the water runs clear, after which the element wants open air and patience — no heat of any kind, no flame — and refitting only when it is thoroughly dry. Sprint Filter's maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
For the KTM 250 Duke, 2017 to 2023, replacing the standard panel in an unaltered airbox. Thirteen machines are listed against this element across KTM and Husqvarna, from 125 to 390 cm³, so the code and the year decide the order rather than the badge. The list is in the Fitment tab.
