DescriptionThe whole story▼
Engineered to meet the demands of both road and circuit, the Öhlins FGRT 224 is a fully certified, ABE-approved upside-down front fork for the Suzuki GSX-R1000 and GSX-R1000R (2017–2023). Its German type approval (ABE) means zero compromise on road legality, while the 30 mm Öhlins cartridge kit delivers the precise, independently adjustable damping that serious sport riders need at the limit.
Key Features
- ABE (Germany) type approval for both the GSX-R1000 and GSX-R1000R — fully road-legal without the need for individual vehicle inspection.
- Öhlins 30 mm cartridge kit provides class-leading damping performance, calibrated for road and track use.
- Separate compression and rebound adjustment allows riders to dial in the exact balance of stability and feedback for any condition.
- 740 mm overall length and 120 mm travel are engineered to the OEM geometry, preserving factory steering head angles.
- Spring rate of 10.0 N/mm suits the weight and power delivery of the GSX-R1000 platform without sacrificing comfort on longer road stints.
- Gold outer tubes in the signature Öhlins finish — immediately recognisable and fully corrosion-resistant for all-season use.
Construction & Performance
The FGRT 224 is built around an inverted (upside-down) tube configuration, placing the stiffer, larger-diameter tubes at the bottom. This dramatically reduces unsprung weight and improves rigidity under hard braking — precisely the conditions where the GSX-R1000 platform operates at its most demanding. The 30 mm Öhlins cartridge, paired with the 08790-series spring system and spring part number 04744-10, allows a level of tune that the standard Suzuki fork simply cannot match. Braking stability is noticeably improved, and mid-corner composure on track is transformed.
Road & Track Versatility
The Road & Track designation is more than a marketing label. Compression and rebound circuits are adjusted independently, so the same fork can be softened for a weekend tour and stiffened for a track day without requiring a workshop visit. The ABE approval ensures the fork can be ridden on public roads in Germany and, in most cases, across the European Union — a critical consideration for riders who use the GSX-R1000 in both environments.
