It is the choice for riders who want the helmet to belong to the motorcycle rather than announce itself, and it survives a working week better than anything else here.

What SHARP measured, and where this helmet sits

Four stars from SHARP, tested August 2026 under ECE 22.06. Worth knowing what that means in context: SHARP has rated roughly two thousand helmets since 2007, and across LS2's thirty rated models the average is 3.4 stars. Four puts the Strobe2 above its own brand's average and level with helmets costing several times as much.

It is also the only rated flip-up in this shop. Everything else in the table below is unrated — not badly rated, simply never submitted — which makes this the one modular helmet here where you are buying a measured result rather than a specification sheet.

Model

Type

Shell

Weight

RRP

FF908 Strobe II

Flip-up (P/J)

KPA

1700 g

from 139 €

FF902 Scope II

Flip-up (P/J)

HPTT

1750 g

from 179 €

FF906 Advant

Flip-up (P/J)

KPA

1750 g

from 299 €

FF901 Advant X

Flip-up (P/J)

HPFC

1600 g

from 399 €

FF901 Advant X Carbon

Flip-up (P/J)

Carbon 6K

1550 g

from 469 €

About the matt titanium finish

There is a practical reason matt titanium sells so well on commuter helmets, and it has nothing to do with taste. Road film — the fine grey mix of brake dust, diesel and rain thrown up at the front of a bike — is very nearly this colour. On gloss black it reads as neglect after two wet rides; here it is invisible until you actually wash the helmet. Matt also scatters light instead of reflecting it, so swirl marks never form the bright highlight that makes them visible. The trade is honest: baked-on insects need soaking rather than wiping, and a matt surface scrubbed hard stays dulled rather than polishing back. One further point specific to this shell: the chin bar on a modular helmet is handled at every stop, and on a matt grey finish the oils from a glove leave a faint darker patch that only shows at certain angles. It washes off with plain water. It is worth knowing before you assume the lacquer is failing.

Three shells, and what KPA actually is

The shell is KPA — Kinetic Polymer Alloy — and it is worth being plain about what that is: an injection-moulded polymer, not a laid-up composite. It resists penetration by yielding locally rather than cracking, and it comes out of the tool identical every time, which hand-laid fibre never quite manages. It is also heavier than fibre for the same strength, and that is where the weight on this page comes from. Seven sizes sit on three shells (XS–S / M–L / XL–3XL).

Ninety degrees, and how the chin bar locks

Ninety degrees, released by a single central catch under the chin. One-handed operation is not a luxury on a modular helmet — the moments you want it open are a fuel pump, a ticket machine, a border post, all of which occupy a hand. Lift until it clicks at the top and it stays there without being held.

What ECE 22.06 and the P/J label mean

ECE 22.06 is not a relabelled 22.05. Impact points went from five to as many as eighteen. A second, lower test speed was added, because a helmet that performs at 8 m/s does not automatically perform at 6. And an oblique impact against a slanted, sandpaper-faced anvil was introduced to put a hard ceiling on rotational acceleration — the injury mechanism European regulation ignored for decades.

Twin Visor, sun visor — and the Pinlock that is not in the box

The Pinlock insert is not included with this helmet. That is the clearest gap between the Strobe II and the two flip-ups above it in our range, and it is worth costing in before you compare prices: the DKS520 lens is a separate purchase. The visor is prepared for it — drilled, pinned, and cut to the MaxVision pattern that runs the lens to the edges of the aperture rather than leaving a fogged frame.

Air, the breath deflector and the elastic-band liner

The comfort liner is 3D laser-cut rather than stamped, which lets foam density and profile vary within a single pad — firm where the helmet has to be held on your jaw, relieved over the cheekbone and where the arms of glasses run. It is hypoallergenic, breathable, and the whole interior comes out for washing.

1700 grams, no emergency release, and the rest of the honest list

What this helmet does not have, and the first one matters most. There is no emergency release system. That is the mechanism that lets a first responder pull the cheek pads out sideways so the helmet lifts off an injured rider without being twisted over the jaw. Both of the more expensive flip-ups in our range include it; this one does not, and it is the clearest thing the extra money buys further up the table.

Beyond that: 1700 g, no Pinlock supplied, and a chin bar that opens to ninety degrees rather than folding away behind the head. None of it is unusual at a hundred and thirty-nine euros. All of it is worth knowing before the box arrives.

When something wears out

🔵 One warning that saves a return: the internal sun visor changed in March 2024. Helmets built from that date take 806811SVI01 (clear) or 806811SVI11 (tinted), shared with the FF811 Vector II. Earlier helmets take the older parts, 800800SVI01 and 806807SVI11, shared with the FF800 and FF808. They do not interchange.
