DescriptionThe whole story▼

Autumn does not ask permission. Wet leaves gather on the apex, tarmac under the trees never quite dries, and the temperature drops the moment the sun goes behind a hill. Anyone who keeps an R nineT out through that season wants a front brake that answers in November the way it answered in July. Accossato lists its AGPA177 pad in the Sintered (ST) compound for the standard R nineT built from 2014 to 2023, and describes a material that holds one steady level of grip cold or hot, and that is not embarrassed by standing water.

Key Features

  • Front pads for the BMW R nineT, listed for the model years 2014 to 2023
  • AGPA177ST: the AGPA177 plate in the Sintered (ST) compound
  • Meant for riders who use the boxer roadster all year, not only in fine weather
  • Accossato names an even grip level at low and at high temperatures
  • The maker also points to confident behaviour on wet roads
  • One box equals one caliper, and the front wheel carries two of them
  • The same plate exists in the EV1, EV2 and ZXC materials
  • No German ABE on record; offered for track and competition riding

Construction and Material Quality

Accossato has been making motorcycle components since 1969, when the firm opened in Moncalieri on the southern edge of Turin, and its pad range works by keeping one plate and changing what sits on its face. Here that face is the sintered material, and the description amounts to a promise of constancy: the grip should not move much between a set that has stood out all night and one that has just come down a long hill, and rain is not supposed to change the story either. Material of this sort also parts with its substance slowly. Two pads travel in the box, the number a single caliper takes.

A Season of Damp Roads

Wet-weather riding on a machine with no fairing is a matter of small margins. Water lies on the discs and has to be wiped away by the first light touch before anything else happens, so experienced riders cover the lever earlier and squeeze rather than grab. Painted lines, drain covers and the polished strip down the middle of a lane all want the brake released before the tyre reaches them. The R nineT has a shaft at the back and no chain to oil, yet polish and spray lubricant still find a disc with uncanny accuracy; keep both away from the front wheel, and wipe any disc that has caught a mist of something. After a soaking, a gentle stop or two on the way home dries the friction faces again, which is why the last stop on the road often feels cleaner than the first one out of a cold car park.

Fitment and Compatibility

The application list ties the AGPA177 to the front wheel of the R nineT from 2014 to 2023. The Urban G/S version, sold from 2017 onwards, uses a front plate of its own, the AGPA96, so check which of the two machines your papers describe before ordering; the rear pad, the AGPA29, is shared and runs from 2014 to 2023. Accossato catalogues two front discs for this family as well, the DK006 and the DK007, which differ in outer diameter. Pads belong on an axle in pairs: two boxes for the front, both sides at once, even when only one set looks tired.

Road Approval

We hold no test certificate for this pad and no German ABE, which means nothing here documents it for use on public roads. The AGPA177ST is therefore offered for the circuit and for competition.

Scope of Delivery

Two Accossato AGPA177 pads in the Sintered (ST) compound, boxed together as the set for one front caliper.
