DescriptionThe whole story▼

The CB500X invites its riders to try the road beyond the tarmac. Honda gave its A2 twin an adventure look and a taller stance, and many owners take it along gravel tracks to campsites, viewpoints and farm cafés. The first stretches of loose surface are where many small falls happen, usually at low speed and with little harm done, except to the parts that stick out. For the CB500X of 2022 and 2023, Accossato lists the AGD207, a silver replacement brake lever of the original type.

Construction and Material Quality

Accossato gives only a few facts about the AGD207, and all of them concern its purpose. It is an original-type spare, so it replaces the brake lever of the CB500X without changing the look of the handlebar. It was developed for good value for money. And in Accossato's words, the process used to make it gives it greater resistance after damage or a fall. The colour is silver. Anything else, from material to measurements, is not stated by the maker.

Where the Tarmac Runs Out

Gravel feels very different under a road-going adventure bike. The front tyre moves around, stopping distances grow and the front brake needs a lighter hand than on tarmac. Most falls on the first gravel rides happen for one of three reasons: braking too hard at the front, stopping with the handlebar turned, or putting a foot down on loose or uneven ground that gives way. Ride the CB500X slowly, stand up on the pegs if you are comfortable doing so, and use the rear brake more than you would on the road. Plan your stops where the ground is flat and firm. Carry a basic tool kit, and if you are heading for remote tracks, think about a spare lever, since a broken front brake lever far from the next village is more than an inconvenience. After a fall, check the lever for bends and cracks and look at the brake reservoir and the hose. A bent lever should be replaced, and before setting off again, pull the new one several times with the bike standing still to feel for a firm pressure point.

Fitment and Compatibility

Accossato lists the AGD207 for the CB500X of 2022 and 2023, and it is the only replacement brake lever named there for this bike. At Inter-Pace the same lever is listed for the NX500, the CB500F and the XL750 Transalp. Accossato's CNC lever for the brake of the 2022 and 2023 CB500X is EDF018. Please compare the product photo with your current lever before ordering.

Road Approval

No ABE or test mark is held for the AGD207, and it is sold for use in racing and competition.
