DescriptionThe whole story▼
Not every Panigale lives on a circuit. The 899 was the one built for the rest of the week: a double-sided swingarm, a slightly gentler seating position and an engine that can be ridden on a normal road without constant apology. Owners cover real mileage on it, which means the oil gets checked in a home garage far more often than in a race paddock. Accossato's FP004 replaces the filler cap for that job, machined from aluminium with an M20x2.5 thread and anodised in eight colours.
Key Features
- Oil filler cap for the Ducati Panigale 899
- Accossato's list runs from 2014 to 2015, ABS version from 2014
- Thread size M20x2.5 as quoted by Accossato
- CNC-machined aluminium with an anodised surface
- Available in blue, green, black, orange, red, silver, titanium and gold
- Also fits other motorcycles using the same filler size
- FP007, TS003 and TS012 complete the set for this bike
- No German ABE on file; offered for track use
Construction and Material Quality
Accossato cuts the FP004 on CNC machinery from aluminium and colours it by anodising, a process that works into the metal instead of covering it. The thread, M20x2.5, is the single measurement the maker publishes, and it is the one that matters: Accossato names its own application list and says the cap is equally at home on other motorcycles with a filler of that size. On a Panigale 899 the choice of finish decides how loud the change is. Black, titanium and silver keep the engine looking much as it left Borgo Panigale; red, gold, orange, blue and green announce that someone has been at work.
A Panigale for Real Roads
Mileage brings its own rhythm. The oil on a bike that is used gets looked at between services rather than only at them, and that quick check is worth doing properly every time. Let the Panigale 899 stand until the engine is cold, then hold or support it exactly as the handbook says while the level is read; a superbike leaning on its side stand will show you a figure that means nothing. Before the filler is opened, clean the area around it, because road dust that has collected there falls straight into the engine the moment the cap is away. Inspect the thread and the sealing face, both on the cap and in the cover, and wipe them if there is anything on them. Add oil slowly, in stages, checking as you go, and keep to the grade the manual names. Turning the FP004 in by hand is deliberate rather than lazy: hand pressure is enough for a cap of this kind, and it means the next person who opens it, possibly you at the roadside, will not need to fight it. A short ride and a look underneath complete the job.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato gives the FP004 for the Panigale 899 across 2014 to 2015 and names the ABS version of 2014 and 2015 separately. Because the fit depends on the M20x2.5 thread, other machines with that filler size are also served, and at Inter-Pace the same cap appears for the Monster 821, the Hypermotard 939 and the Hyperstrada 821. Should your engine cover or its cap have been changed at some point, check the thread first. The same bike is covered by three further Accossato caps: FP007 at the clutch, TS003 at the front brake reservoir and TS012 at the rear.
Road Approval
No test certificate or German ABE has reached us for the FP004, and for that reason we list it for racing and competition purposes.
