Two motorcycles in this catalogue are called Stelvio, and they do not take the same air filter. The 8V of the previous decade has its own part number and its own housing; the Stelvio launched in 2024 takes SM239S, the element it shares with the V100 Mandello. The name on the tank therefore identifies nothing on its own. The model year identifies the machine, and the part number identifies the filter — which is why the years are printed in the title of this listing and why they are the first thing to check against the registration document before ordering anything.
Key Features
- Dry polyester weave in a single layer, rated at 80 µm filtration
- Flow rated at 5,050 l/m²/sec, the standard grade in the Sprint Filter media range
- Threads from 22 µm in diameter upwards; the figure describes the yarn, not the openings between it
- No oil at any point, so nothing can be over-applied or carried into the intake
- Approximately double the working area of a typical performance element
- Slots into the standard airbox in place of the factory element, with no remap required
Ordering by number, not by name
Model names are reused across decades in this industry, and a filter is drawn around a housing rather than around a badge. The safest sequence is always the same: establish the model year, look up the part number that the year points to, and then check that number against the panel that comes out of the machine. On this Stelvio that path leads to SM239S, and it leads to the same element for a V100 Mandello parked next to it — the two share the housing, which is a fact about the platform rather than a coincidence of naming.
The standard grade on a travelling machine
Eighty microns and 5,050 l/m²/sec place this cloth in the middle of the range, with more open material above it and closer grades below. Choosing between them is choosing where to sit on a single exchange: a closer medium holds back more of the fine fraction and passes less air, a more open one does the reverse. None of the choices adds power. A panel in an unmodified airbox leaves a series motorcycle exactly as strong as it left the factory; the benefit is a low intake resistance that a cleaning restores, on a part that is serviced rather than consumed.
Care and cleaning
Compressed air, aimed outward from the clean face, is the standard service for SM239S and takes a few minutes. Where the load has been fine or damp, wash it in lukewarm water with a mild detergent, rinse it out thoroughly and let it dry right through in circulating air. Never use heat or a flame to hurry the drying, and never treat the weave with oil — it goes back into the airbox dry. The maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
Drawn for the airbox of the Moto Guzzi Stelvio in model years 2024 to 2026. The part number covers two machines in this medium, the Stelvio and the V100 Mandello, each shown with its own model years in the Fitment tab.
