DescriptionThe whole story▼
The JP ES 007 sits in the Diavel's own connector in place of the secondary air valve, and it is the reason the panel stays dark once the hardware is gone.
Key Features
- Ducati Diavel (2015–2019)
- Takes the secondary air solenoid out of the circuit
- No warning on the instrument panel
- Plugs into Ducati's own connector
- Nothing cut, nothing spliced
- Standard valve refits at any time
The Original Power Cruiser
Ducati took the 1198 superbike engine, detuned it and put it in a low chassis with a 240 section rear tyre. Nothing like it existed before 2011.
The Secondary Air Valve
An electrically opened solenoid feeds filtered air into the exhaust ports on a shut throttle, so mixture that escaped the cylinder finishes burning in the header rather than leaving the pipe.
What the Unit Contains
A resistance matched to the solenoid winding, potted in a sealed body with Ducati's own connector moulded on. There is nothing to configure.
Soot Inside the Airbox
The signature of a cracked reed, which lets exhaust gas travel back up the hose. It coats the element and is almost always found while looking for something else.
Desmodromic Valves Do Not Change This
Ducati's mechanically closed valve gear is what allows the rev ceilings the company quotes, and it has no bearing at all on the secondary air system bolted to the outside of the head.
Bologna Builds Them
Ducati assembles almost everything in Borgo Panigale, beside the museum and the racing department. That proximity shows in the motorcycles and in how their owners treat them.
What Happens on a Trailing Throttle
The engine is still turning, the injectors have shut and unburnt mixture is pushed into the header. Fresh air arriving there finds it and finishes the job at a temperature high enough to be audible from several metres away.
The Airbox Tells You the Truth
While the airbox is open for access, the element is worth a proper look. A clean filter means the reeds are still sealing and the electrical half is genuinely all that is needed. Discolouration or soot means exhaust gas has been travelling the wrong way, and in that case the housing on the cylinder head is a repair rather than an optional extra.
The Wiring Stub Left Behind
Removing the valve leaves a short length of loom ending in a connector, and where that goes matters more than it sounds. Tied back against the frame it is invisible for the life of the motorcycle; left hanging it eventually finds a hot exhaust header or a moving cable. Two minutes with a cable tie is the difference between a clean job and one that comes back.
