DescriptionThe whole story▼
A fifty makes its power in a narrow slice of the rev range, and the Aprilia RS4 50 is no exception. Let the revs sag on a hill or out of a slow corner and the small two-stroke single has not much left to pull with; the way back is a lower gear, a few more revs and a clutch fed in with some care. That puts the left hand to work far more often than on a bigger motorcycle. The Accossato ESS248 is a CNC-machined clutch lever for the RS4 50 of 2011 to 2016, with an adjustable reach and three blade lengths.

- Short blade in silver, blue, gold, green or orange
- Long blade in blue, gold, green or orange

Construction and Material Quality
Accossato was founded in 1969 in Moncalieri, near Turin, as a builder of competition motorcycles, and machining rather than casting is how it makes its levers. The ESS248 is cut from solid aluminium on CNC machines, which puts the pivot bore and the adjuster seat in exactly the same position on every piece, and is then anodised. Its hub is black, while the blade comes in the colour you order. The anodised layer is harder than bare aluminium, and it does not peel, because it grew out of the metal rather than being applied to it. Between hub and tip the blade runs without a hinge.
A Narrow Band of Revs
Small two-strokes reward riders who keep them spinning. Pulling away on the RS4 50 usually means holding the revs up and letting the clutch out progressively, rather than releasing it just above tickover and hoping the engine will cope. The same applies on a steep street, into a stiff headwind or when the traffic ahead slows to a crawl and then moves off again. Each of these moments asks for a controlled slip of the clutch, and control is easier when the lever lies exactly where the fingers can hold it. Set the adjuster so that the friction point arrives with your fingers comfortably curled rather than at full stretch; young riders with smaller hands will often bring the blade noticeably closer than the original lever sat. The short blade leaves two fingers on the lever and the others round the grip, ready for the next quick change. The long blade, in orange, gold, green or blue, gives more leverage and so a lighter pull, which is welcome on the RS4 50 over a day of short trips with dozens of starts.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the ESS248 for the RS4 50 from 2011 to 2016, written in its catalogue as RS-4 50. The lever fits the original clutch mounting and takes the place of the standard part. No Accossato brake lever is named for this bike, so the clutch side is the only one covered. The four-stroke RS4 125, which uses the same lever, is listed in our range as a separate product.
Road Approval
There is no German ABE on record for the ESS248, and it is sold for use on the race track.
