DescriptionThe whole story

Distance changes what a brake pad has to be, and the Kawasaki VERSYS 1000 SE covers a great deal of it. The VERSYS 1000 SE takes the T004: a 8.5 mm stack of ceramic-sintered material across 71.5 by 50.0 mm. What is new on the Kawasaki VERSYS 1000 SE is the compound - EXR, on a backing plate alloy specified with it.

Key Features

  • Up to 20 percent more braking force in the second phase of braking, where the pad on a VERSYS 1000 SE has already taken on most of its heat
  • Rotor-friendly by formulation: the VERSYS 1000 SE discs see a ceramic film rather than an abrasive
  • Part number Z-T004-EXR, EAN 4950545771827
  • The Tokico caliper spreads under peak pressure; the T004 plate is cut stiff enough to keep the friction face flat while it does
  • Compatible with the standard Tokico retaining pin and spring of the VERSYS 1000 SE - nothing else to buy
  • Suitable for trackday use on the VERSYS 1000 SE without a change of pad before the session

Construction and Material Quality

Every ZCOO reference, the T004 among them, is built around one idea: keep the friction face flat. Sintering fuses the ceramic to the plate, which is what lets the T004 hold together where an organic pad has begun to break down. Everything about the T004 plate is there to stop the friction face going out of true.

Performance and Feel

On the VERSYS 1000 SE the EXR compound moves the argument from feel to authority. Better cold performance was the other half of the change, and on a VERSYS 1000 SE used on the road that matters more than the extra force. The fortieth stop of a day on the Kawasaki VERSYS 1000 SE should feel like the first, and with the T004 it does.

Fitment and Compatibility

For the Kawasaki VERSYS 1000 SE, 2019 to 2024, on the Tokico fitment. Before ordering, check that your caliper takes a pad of 71.5 mm length and 50.0 mm height. The same T004 shape covers 18 further machines in the 2026 catalogue. The reference is a front pad; ZCOO lists no rear equivalent.

Road Approval

No ECE R90 type approval is documented for this pad. It appears neither in ZCOO's own catalogue nor on the European distributor's site, and no approval number is printed on the packaging data available to us. ZCOO itself describes the compound as suited to competition machines and road machines alike, but that is a description of the mixture, not a type approval. Until the distributor confirms an approval in writing, treat this as a track and competition part: in Germany a replacement brake pad without ECE R90 approval may not be fitted to a motorcycle used on public roads. Ask us before ordering if you need this clarified for your machine.
