The MT-07 has been in production since 2014 and has been modified more often than almost any other middleweight of its generation. That history has a quiet consequence: most of what owners do to this bike eventually runs into paperwork — an exhaust that changes the noise approval, a map that changes the emissions class, a filter arrangement that changes the intake noise. The Sprint Filter P08 CM148S is deliberately on the other side of that line. It goes into the standard airbox in place of the standard element, the airbox lid closes as it always did, and nothing about the bike's approval or its fuelling changes.
Key Features
- Never oiled: a dry P08 polyester medium with nothing in it to migrate onto the sensors
- Woven to a calibrated aperture from polyester threads of ø 22 microns, not pressed from pulp
- 80 microns of filtration and 5,050 litres per square metre per second of airflow
- Roughly double the filtering surface that other performance filters bring
- A direct replacement: nothing modified, nothing remapped, homologation unaffected
- Washable and reusable, with two years of warranty from date of purchase
One airbox, three model designations, twelve model years
MT-07, the licence-restricted MT-07A and the MotoCage all use the same intake, and the restricted version is restricted somewhere other than the airbox — a rider who moves from an A2 licence to an unrestricted bike keeps the same filter. Over a production run this long that matters more than it sounds. Model-specific consumables get harder to find as a generation ages; a part that covers a whole platform stays on the shelf, because seven different machines keep asking for it.
What a drop-in filter honestly does
It does not make a standard MT-07 noticeably faster, and any description that promises otherwise is selling something. What it changes is the restriction the engine works against: lower at the start, and — because the element is cleaned rather than replaced — the same again after every service instead of drifting upward between them. On a twin that spends its life in small, frequent throttle movements, a stable intake pressure is felt as consistency in the response rather than as a number. The second change is arithmetic: this is a service item bought once instead of every few thousand kilometres.
Care and cleaning
The element is blown through with compressed air, clean side first and working outwards. If more is wanted, wash it in lukewarm water with a mild detergent and rinse until the water runs clear. Drying happens fully in open air — never with heat, never with a flame — and it is refitted dry. No oil is used at any stage. Downloads holds the Sprint Filter maintenance sheet.
Fitment & Compatibility
Made for the Yamaha MT-07, MT-07A and MT-07 MotoCage, 2014 to 2026. The same CM148S element covers seven machines built around this airbox, including the FZ-07, XSR 700, Tracer 7, YZF-R7 and the XTZ 690 Tenere; the complete list is in the Fitment tab.
