What the ride afterwards really compares

Two states of one intake, not two media. Restriction rises slowly as an element loads, and a rider adapts to it without noticing — a little more throttle for the same speed, week after week, over a service interval. Replacing the element resets that drift in a single step, and the step is felt. Credit it to the racing weave and you have named the wrong cause, because the identical reset arrives with any clean filter at any aperture in the range, including the cheapest one that fits this box.

Every cleaning does it again

That is not a complaint about the part; it is the reason to own a washable one. The same step you notice after fitting a new element returns after every proper cleaning, for as long as you keep the machine, and it asks for a compressor rather than a delivery. Just keep the cause straight, because it decides where the money goes. If the ground is loose and dusty, the move for a Valico DS is the CM251T12 catalogued for this airbox at 7 µm and 560 l/m²/sec, not more flow. If it is tarmac, the standard CM251S at 80 µm and 5,050 is the proportionate part. And in none of these cases does a drop-in element make a standard Valico DS noticeably stronger.

Care and cleaning

Servicing the CM251S F1-85 takes a compressor and a few minutes: hold the line to the clean side and drive the dirt outward, never inward. Once a season has gone beyond what air will shift, warm water and a mild detergent lift the rest; rinse thoroughly.
