DescriptionThe whole story▼
On a crossplane R1 the clutch matters most in the first two gears, where the engine's torque arrives in a lump. A lever with no slack and a chosen reach makes those two gears smoother. The approval needs a closer look on this model, because one version of the R1 is not sold for the road.
Key Features
- Coloured inserts at the lever end can be exchanged
- Interchangeable cable mounts marked 32, 34 and 36 change the lever ratio on cable-operated clutches
- CNC-machined from high-strength aluminium, anodised
- Folding lever, swings clear instead of breaking in a fall
- Double ball bearings instead of plain bushings, so the lever has no play
- ABE No. KBA 91507; one version is racing only, ask us
Types RN32, RN49 and RN65
Gilles lists the R1 of 2015 to 2024 under these Yamaha codes for the MPCL-01.
Three settings
The closest of the three brings the blade as near the bar as the design permits, for riders who keep two fingers on the grip.
Road Approval
The approval depends on the version here. For the Yamaha R1 Gilles gives ABE No. KBA 91507, while for the R1 of 2023 onwards the entry reads racing use only, not approved for use on public roads. If you are unsure which applies to your bike, ask us and we will check it against the fitment list.
Scope of Delivery
Supplied as a single MPL clutch lever in black. Gilles offers the brake lever under its own number. The three cable mounts are part of the lever.
Fitting
After fitting, check the span setting with your gloves on rather than bare-handed, since that is how the lever will be used. Make sure the folding joint moves without effort and that the lever returns cleanly to its stop.
