DescriptionThe whole story▼
Two newton metres at 3,100 rpm. On a 1,237 cc V4 weighing 275 kg with luggage, that is the figure that matters — the point where a heavy shaft-driven tourer pulls away from a junction or climbs a pass with a passenger aboard.
Key Features
- 4.14 kg against the standard 5.12 kg: 1.0 kg and 19.1 per cent less
- 2.0 Nm more at 3,100 rpm, low in the range where the V4 does its work
- 1.0 PS more at 7,600 rpm, peak output rising to 109.0 PS
- Titanium muffler outer sleeve with a carbon fibre end cap
- Compatible with the Honda side cases and the centre stand
- EC and ECE type approved
- No removable noise insert is supplied
A V4 That Deserved Better
The Crosstourer took the VFR1200F's V4 and put it in an adventure chassis with shaft drive — 129 PS, 275 kg, and a character no parallel twin adventure bike has ever matched. It never sold in the numbers it deserved, and Honda dropped it after 2020.
That makes it a used motorcycle today, and one whose owners tend to keep them a long time. A titanium silencer on a machine like this is a long-term investment rather than a resale decision, and the standard unit is a heavy steel assembly that corrodes at the seam with age.
Everything Stays Usable
Honda's own panniers and the centre stand are what a Crosstourer is set up with, and this silencer clears both. On a shaft-driven bike the centre stand matters less for maintenance than on a chain bike, but it is still what holds 275 kg upright on soft ground.
Forty-Five Minutes
Longer than most slip-ons here. The Crosstourer's silencer sits behind bodywork with the pannier mount above it, so the right-hand side has to come apart before the mounting is reachable. Plan for a workshop session rather than a quick job in the driveway.
The Sound of a V4
Four cylinders in a V configuration produce a firing order and an exhaust pulse that no inline four and no twin can imitate. Honda muffled most of it away on the Crosstourer to meet touring noise expectations, and the standard silencer is a large, heavily baffled steel assembly built for exactly that.
Opening it up is the main reason to fit this part. The 2 Nm at 3,100 rpm is real and useful; the sound is what the owner of a V4 adventure bike is actually buying.
