DescriptionThe whole story▼
A KTM 250 XCF-W from 2014 to 2016 is now usually bought second-hand, and the levers are among the first things worth a look. A brake lever bent back towards the grip, or shortened by a break, says a lot about how the four-stroke has been ridden and how often it has been dropped. Replacing it is one of the simplest ways to make a used enduro bike feel like your own. Accossato's B8283 fits the 250 XCF-W of those years: a folding brake lever milled from Ergal 7075, with a blade that can swing forward in a fall.
Key Features
- Folding brake lever for the KTM 250 XCF-W, model years 2014 to 2016
- Replaces the original lever at the front brake master cylinder
- Anti-break joint: the blade can tip forward on impact
- Short blade for three fingers
- Machined in Italy from a block of Ergal 7075
- Black, blue or orange blade, dark base
- Delivered as a single lever
- No German ABE documented; off-road use only
Construction and Material Quality
Seen from above, the B8283 shows its construction at once. There is a dark base, which sits at the pivot on the master cylinder, and a blade in black, blue or orange, joined to the base by a hinge so that it can fold. Neither part is cast. Accossato mills both in Italy from solid Ergal 7075, an aluminium alloy of high strength, and names strength, low weight and reliability as the qualities it is after. As on Accossato's other off-road brake levers, the blade is short and meant for three fingers.
Reading a Used Bike by Its Levers
Anyone who has bought a used enduro bike knows the walk-round: tyres, chain and sprockets, wheel bearings, the state of the air filter, the colour of the coolant. The levers belong on that list too. A brake lever with a bent tip, a blade twisted slightly off line or one that stops short of where the original ended all point to falls on the right side, and they are a reason to look closely at the handlebar and the master cylinder as well. A lever that snapped and was never replaced suggests a bike that has been ridden home on a stub.
Once the 250 XCF-W is in your garage, a new brake lever is a small job that changes how the bike feels under your hand. The B8283 gives it a fresh, straight blade, and its joint gives the blade a better chance of staying that way: when the bike is dropped, it can fold forward rather than bend or break, though a heavy enough impact can still damage it. For a four-stroke enduro that will spend its next years on the trails, that is a sensible first upgrade, and a new blade colour can help the KTM 250 XCF-W look cared for again.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato's listing for the B8283 covers the KTM 250 XCF-W from 2014 to 2016. It takes the place of the stock lever on the original master cylinder. If the bike you bought is older, from 2006 to 2013, only the clutch side is catered for: the C7283 folding clutch lever is listed for the whole run from 2006 to 2016. Both levers are made in black, blue and orange; the clutch lever is available in red as well.
Road Approval
The B8283 has no documented German ABE and is supplied for off-road and competition use only.
