Weight in the Right Place

Six point four kilos is a large number in absolute terms, but where it comes from matters more than what it is. The standard catalytic converter and collector sit low and central, under the engine and ahead of the rear wheel — close to the roll axis, which is the one part of a motorcycle where weight is least noticeable at a standstill and most noticeable in a fast direction change.

Taking mass out of that region does not make the bike feel lighter when you push it around the garage. It makes it settle sooner between two corners. That is the reason a 3/4 titanium manifold is a common first purchase for riders who already have a competent bike and want it to feel less reluctant.

Titanium at the 3/4 Length

The step up from the stainless GYA8878 to this one is a little over two hundred euros, and it buys the material change on the section that runs hottest after the headers. Titanium's advantage here is not only mass: it has roughly half the thermal conductivity of stainless, so more of the exhaust gas heat stays in the gas instead of radiating into the fairing and the rider's boot.

What comes with it is the bracket for the original passenger footpeg, which means the pillion seat stays usable — not a given on a system that replaces the collector.

Fitment & Compatibility

Yamaha R1 and R1M, 2015 through 2025. Combined with the Grid-O silencer this manifold becomes GYA8858T, with the Force GYA8882T, with the Moto GP GYA8879T. The stainless version of the same manifold is GYA8878.
