Manufacture and Tolerance
Production is Öhlins' own in Sweden, and the tolerance on the rate is what separates these from a generic replacement. Öhlins manufactures in Upplands Väsby, north of Stockholm, and assembles and tests every unit there before it ships. Seals are specified for temperature stability rather than for the lowest unit cost.

Rate and the Linkage
A rear spring is the cheapest part of the suspension and the one that decides the most. A spring that has settled in service sits shorter than new, which quietly lowers the bike and steepens the steering. Rear spring rate sets ride height and static sag, and those two decide the chassis attitude before any damping click matters.

Öhlins offers rates in defined steps so a change can be made in one direction at a time rather than by guesswork. Nothing about the installation changes across a rate range: the mounting, the length and the bore stay the same.
Installation
Check the free length against the old springs before fitting — a sagged original often measures short. Fork oil should be replaced at the same time — it is already out of the leg. A spring that is the correct length still needs the preload spacer checked, since installed length is what sets sag.
Road Approval
Road approval: springs are not separately type-approved in Germany because they substitute a part that is already homologated with the fork. Model-specific documents, where they exist, are named above.
