DescriptionThe whole story▼
The K-Tech KTR-5 is a race-engineered front fork built for riders who demand sustained precision over long stints on track. Every detail — from the DLC-coated inner tubes to the 7075 aluminium outer tubes — has been developed to deliver a consistent, fatigue-free connection between the rider and the front wheel, lap after lap, without fade or unpredictable damping shifts.
Key Features
- Through Rod Damping System (TRDS) with a 25 mm cartridge creates fully independent compression and rebound circuits, eliminating cross-talk and reducing hysteresis for a more predictable, comfortable ride feel.
- Completely temperature-stable damping performance — no fade under sustained high-load conditions, making the fork equally trustworthy at the start of a session and deep into a long race.
- Outer tubes and axle clamps machined from 7075 aluminium for an exceptional strength-to-weight ratio without compromise on stiffness.
- DLC-coated, superfinished inner tubes minimise stiction, allowing the fork to track surface imperfections with exceptional suppleness — critical for rear-end stability and rider comfort under braking.
- 30-click independent compression and rebound adjustment plus 18 mm of spring preload range to dial in the setup for any circuit and any rider weight.
- Proven at the highest level of national and international racing — British Superbike Championship and Isle of Man TT.
Through Rod Damping System Explained
Unlike conventional cartridge forks that share a common oil path for compression and rebound, the KTR-5's TRDS architecture routes each damping circuit through a dedicated passage within the 25 mm through-rod. The result is a fork that responds immediately and independently to both compression inputs — hard braking, kerb strikes — and rebound demands, without one circuit interfering with the other. Hysteresis is dramatically reduced, so the fork never feels vague or reluctant to return, even after repeated heavy inputs on a technical circuit.
Build Quality and Materials
The KTR-5 is the natural evolution of K-Tech's proven KTR-4 platform, built to even tighter manufacturing tolerances. The outer tubes are machined from 7075 aluminium — the same alloy used in aerospace and high-load structural components — while the inner tubes receive a DLC (Diamond-Like Carbon) coating followed by a superfinish surface process. This combination produces an exceptionally low friction coefficient across the full stroke, reducing the physical effort needed to maintain a consistent line through extended corners and contributing directly to rider comfort during long track sessions. Axle clamps are also machined from 7075 aluminium, accepting brake discs from 290 mm to 320 mm diameter using 108 mm centre-mount calipers.
Setup and Adjustment
The KTR-5 ships with three pairs of springs covering a range of spring rates, so teams and privateers can select the correct rate for rider weight and circuit character before the first session. With 30 clicks of compression adjustment, 30 clicks of rebound adjustment and 18 mm of preload range, the fork offers enough resolution to fine-tune comfort and control precisely — minimising the physical workload on the rider without sacrificing outright response.
Fitment and Compatibility
The KTR-5 fork (part number 160-022-770) is a 43 mm unit with a total length of 770 mm. It is compatible with a wide range of race-prepared motorcycles. Please note: installation requires dedicated retrofit clamps, clip-ons and axle inserts appropriate to the intended chassis. Fitment must be carried out by an authorised K-Tech Service Centre to ensure safety and correct performance.
