DescriptionThe whole story▼
Built for the demands of British Superbike competition and the Isle of Man TT, the K-Tech DDS Closed Cartridge Kit transforms the standard forks of the Kawasaki ZX-10 R and ZX-10 RR into a fully tuneable, race-grade suspension platform. Whether you are chasing lap times at the circuit or extracting the last tenth on the mountain course, this kit delivers the precision and stability that top-level riders depend on.
Key Features
- Direct Damping System (DDS) technology uses 20 mm pistons to generate high oil flow through 31 mm control valves, providing exceptional damping control and a sharper, more connected feel through the bars.
- Patented pressurised design eliminates cavitation, keeping performance consistent even under the most extreme, sustained track conditions.
- Independent, asymmetric compression and rebound circuits — each offering 30 clicks of adjustment — allow the two fork legs to be tuned separately, dramatically improving chassis dynamics and response time.
- 18 mm spring preload adjustment range accommodates a wide spread of rider weights and setup preferences without specialist tools.
- 8 mm piston rod reduces system offset for smoother, more progressive damping action throughout the stroke.
- Increased stroke travel compared to the original cartridge for improved wheel control over aggressive kerbs and surface changes.
- Used at the highest levels of racing, including the British Superbike Championship and the Isle of Man TT.
DDS Technology Explained
The Direct Damping System is a pressurised closed-cartridge concept engineered by K-Tech to address the limitations of conventional open-cartridge forks. By spring-loading the system internally, K-Tech ensures the oil remains in constant, controlled contact with the piston at all times. This eliminates the cavitation and aeration that cause the vague, inconsistent feel so often felt with standard fork internals under hard braking or high-speed compression events.
The 20 mm piston drives a large volume of oil through the 31 mm control valves with every stroke, giving the damping circuits the flow they need to react instantly. The asymmetric layout — where compression and rebound circuits operate entirely independently of one another — means adjustments made on one leg have no cross-influence on the other, allowing a level of fine-tuning that mirrors what factory race teams use.
Track-Bred, Road-Legal Precision
The kit is supplied complete with three pairs of springs from the 36-260 series, covering a meaningful range of spring rates so you can dial in the correct base tune for your weight and riding style from the outset. The required installation tools are also included, though K-Tech strongly recommends having the cartridges fitted by an authorised K-Tech Service Centre. Specialist tooling and technique are necessary to guarantee both the performance and the safety of the system.
Recommended Settings (Starting Point)
K-Tech provides the following baseline settings to get you started on a standard ZX-10 R/RR setup:
- Compression: 16 clicks from fully closed
- Rebound: 18 clicks from fully closed
- Preload: 10 mm
Fitment & Compatibility
This cartridge kit is designed as a direct replacement for the original fork internals on the following models:
- Kawasaki ZX-10 R — 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020
- Kawasaki ZX-10 RR — 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020
Installation must be carried out by an authorised K-Tech Service Centre using the correct specialist tools to ensure full performance and safety compliance.
