The 890 Duke R is the sharpest version of the middleweight. The JP PD KT071 replaces its right-hand switch with milled Ergal on a universal clamp.

A Hundred and Twenty-One Horsepower
The R gets higher compression, a revised cylinder head and a different exhaust, along with WP APEX suspension, Brembo Stylema brakes and a considerably more aggressive riding position. It is the version aimed at people who intend to use a circuit.
Stiffer Everywhere
The R's suspension is firm to the point of being uncomfortable on a poor road, which is a deliberate choice rather than an oversight. It rewards a smooth surface and a committed rider and punishes anything else, which is exactly what was intended.
Stylema and What Feeds Them
Brembo's monobloc calipers with a radial master cylinder come as standard, which is unusual at this price. It also means the clamp geometry differs from the base 890, and the universal plate is what makes one switch cover both.
Where Track Riders Change Things
An 890 Duke R prepared for circuit use typically gets rearsets, a quick throttle and a lever guard before anything else. The area around the master cylinder becomes crowded quickly, which is why the switch's footprint matters.
Uneven Firing
The LC8c's 75 degree crank offset gives it a V-twin's character in a parallel twin package. It also puts a distinctive pulse into the handlebar that a machined body with a bolted clamp tolerates better than clipped halves.
Two Anodised Finishes
Black and orange. On an 890 Duke R in KTM's own colours, orange appears on the frame, the wheels and the graphics, which makes the cockpit option a continuation rather than an intervention.
Sealed and One-Piece
Sealed contacts inside a body milled from a single billet. No seam for water and no joint for the buttons to sit across, which on a bike used on both road and circuit matters in both settings.
