DescriptionThe whole story▼
The Z1000SX turned the naked Z1000 into a genuine sports tourer. The JP PD KA074 replaces its right-hand switch with a milled Ergal body.
Key Features
- Kawasaki Z1000SX (2011–2019)
- Universal hole pattern for either master cylinder
- Full street control set
- Black or titanium anodising
- CNC-milled Ergal 7075
- Plug-and-play on the original connector
The Sensible One
Take the Z1000's engine, add a fairing, an adjustable screen, a more relaxed riding position and panniers, and the result was Kawasaki's most useful large motorcycle for most of a decade. The SX outsold the naked bike it came from and did so quietly.
Mileage Rather Than Sessions
An SX is bought to cover distance, which changes what the switchgear endures. Cruise control on the later bikes, mode changes on varying roads, indicators at every junction, hour after hour. It is the highest duty cycle in the Kawasaki range outside the touring models.
Behind a Screen, Still Wet
The fairing sends air over the rider's chest rather than around the hands. In sustained rain the water runs down the bar and reaches the controls anyway, which is why sealed switch elements and a housing without a moulded joint matter on a touring bike as much as on a naked one.
Gloves for Half the Year
A motorcycle used for distance is used in cold weather, and the difference between a machined step and a softened moulding is most obvious through a winter glove. It is not a comfort question; it is whether the correct button was pressed.
Universal Clamp Holes
The plate accepts both bolt geometries. SX owners change master cylinders less often than track riders do, but they do fit bar risers and guards that crowd the same area, and the flexibility is worth having.
Nine Model Years
The fitment runs from the 2011 launch to 2019, after which Kawasaki renamed the bike Ninja 1000SX and revised the electronics. The two are close in appearance and not identical electrically, so the year rather than the shape settles which part is correct.
