Settings Changed While Moving
Damping mode, engine map, traction and engine braking are all reached from this block without stopping. On a Tuono those genuinely change between a motorway and a mountain road within one ride.
A Hundred and Seventy-Five Horsepower, Naked
Nothing else in the class offers a V4 in this format, which is why the Tuono has held its position through four generations of challengers. The engine makes the case entirely on its own.
Semi-Active Suspension
The Factory's Öhlins adjust continuously from the inertial platform. On a short-wheelbase bike with wide bars, braking, turn-in and drive load the chassis in quick succession and a fixed setting cannot follow.
The Hands Take the Wind
At speed, with no fairing, the rider's hands are pushed back and reaching for a control is a movement made against pressure. A block that stays put is the difference between deliberate and approximate.
Black or Titanium
Converted into the aluminium. Titanium sits closest to the gold fork legs without attempting to match them, which is generally the more successful of the two approaches.
Sealed Elements
Enclosed within the machined body. There is no clipped cover to work loose under a V4's firing interval and no seam for rain on a bike with essentially no protection.
What Is Left to Improve
Öhlins, forged wheels, Brembo, integrated aerodynamics and a complete electronics package. The bar-mounted components are among the last places an owner can make a visible difference.
Original Connector
Pre-wired to Aprilia's plug. Nothing spliced, nothing coded, and the change reverses as easily as it was made.
Aerodynamics Without Bodywork
The current Tuono carries winglets in its minimal front fairing, which looks like a contradiction until the speed rises far enough for them to matter. They keep the front wheel loaded at exactly the point where a conventional naked motorcycle begins to feel vague, and the rider has other things to think about than finding a switch.
