The Track-Day Choice
A great many RRs went to circuits because the money saved over an RF bought suspension work and a season of tyres. That is exactly the ownership pattern a race-layout control block is drawn for.
Where the Blue Button Goes
On the street version it sits second in the column; here it sits at the bottom. Under heavy braking the thumb arrives at the end of the column first, and the layout is built around that fact rather than around symmetry.
Same Engine, Different Springs
The RR and RF share the 999.6 cc V4, the frame and the electronics. Sachs rather than Öhlins and cast rather than forged wheels are the entire difference, which makes the RR the more rational track bike to modify.
Pre-2017 Only
This block fits the control layout used up to and including 2016. Aprilia revised it for the following model year, and the later assembly carries a different part number entirely.
Adjusting Under Load
Traction level goes down as the tyre goes off and the map changes when the track cools. Both are done from here, mid-lap, without closing the throttle, which is a lot of cycles on a small number of contacts.
Four Anodised Colours
Black, blue, red and titanium, converted into the surface. A circuit bike gets dropped occasionally and anodising dulls at the contact point rather than flaking away from it.
Sealed Elements
Enclosed within the machined body instead of behind a snap-fit cover. Pressure washing after a session is what pushes water past a moulded joint, and this design does not offer one.
Reversible in an Afternoon
Pre-wired to the original connector, so the bike can be returned to standard for a sale without any wiring work. Nothing has been cut, extended or soldered at any point.
