DescriptionThe whole story▼
The S1000R took the RR's engine, dropped the fairing and softened the peak — and kept the same ignition arrangement on top of the fork crown. For anyone building an S1000R for track work or supermoto-style street riding, the barrel is the first thing that looks out of place. JP KS BM008 removes it.
Key Features
- Fits the BMW S1000R across both generations, 2013 through 2020
- Replaces the ignition block: no key, no lock, no barrel
- Approximately 350 g taken off the top of the chassis
- Solid-machined Ergal housing with an IP69K push button
- Key Box included for the BMW EWS immobiliser
- Plug-and-play using the factory connector and mounting points
Shared With the RR, Priced for the R
BMW uses a common ignition mounting across the S1000 platform, which is why the same JetPrime part number covers the S1000R, the S1000RR and the S1000XR. Practically, that means a switch bought for one bike in the family transfers to another without modification — useful if the R is a stepping stone rather than a destination.
The Immobiliser
The S1000R's electronic immobiliser reads a transponder in the key. The Key Box supplied with this kit holds that original key and connects to the antenna, so the system stays satisfied while the lock itself disappears from the cockpit. Nothing is coded, cloned or bypassed — the factory security remains exactly as BMW built it, just relocated.
Fitment and Compatibility
- BMW S1000R (2013–2016)
- BMW S1000R (2017–2020)
Road Approval
None. The ignition lock forms part of the motorcycle's type approval. This switch is sold for closed-circuit and competition use only.
Before You Order
Check whether your S1000R still runs the standard BMW ignition barrel with the EWS antenna ring. Bikes that have had a race loom or an aftermarket immobiliser delete fitted may not have the connector this switch expects. With the factory plug in place the swap is a plug-in job; without it, the harness will need to be sorted first. Two minutes with a torch under the yoke answers the question.
