On an R nineT Scrambler that is taken onto gravel, a front slider has an obvious job: if the bike slides out or tips over, it should reach the ground ahead of the fork and the axle area, where it may limit the damage. If you are comfortable doing so, stand on the footrests, grip the tank with your knees and keep your arms loose. Brake gently with the rear, and use the front with care, especially when the bike is not upright. In bends, look far ahead and hold a steady throttle. Deeper gravel at the edges of the track is where the front wheel can wash out, so stay on the firmer lines left by car tyres. On a steep descent, go slowly in a low gear and let the engine hold the bike back.
