DescriptionThe whole story▼
The Honda CB500X is the adventure-styled member of Honda's 500 family, with a tall screen, an upright riding position and a single disc at the front. That disc handles every stop from the front wheel, loaded or not, and the way the lever is used has a big effect on how well it works. Accossato's DK230 is an Elite floating front disc for the Honda CB500X, listed for 2013 to 2018. Its ring spans 320 mm and, at 5 mm, is exactly as thick as the original disc, as the supplier points out; the carrier is black, and the rivets carry the Accossato logo.
Key Features
- Elite floating front disc for the Honda CB500X, 2013 to 2018
- 320 mm outer diameter, 210 mm inner diameter
- 5 mm thick, equal to the original disc according to the supplier
- Friction ring riveted to a black carrier, logo on each rivet
- Minimum working thickness printed on the disc
- One front disc on the CB500X of these years, so one order is enough
- Accossato also lists the EDF018 and EDF025 brake levers and ESH250 clutch lever
- No German ABE documented; for track use
Construction and Material Quality
On this Elite disc a floating friction ring is riveted to a black carrier, each rivet bearing the Accossato logo. The supplier states that the thickness, 5 mm, matches the original disc; the outer diameter is 320 mm and the inner diameter 210 mm. The rivets let the ring expand with heat independently of the carrier, which keeps the disc true after hard use. According to Accossato, the design and the fine tolerances between ring and carrier come from the company's racing experience in Superbike and in the Moto2 and Moto3 classes.
Squeeze, Don't Grab
When the front brake is applied, weight shifts forward, the fork compresses and the front tyre is pressed into the road. That takes a moment. Grab the lever hard and fast, and the brake reaches full force before the tyre has the extra load, which can lock the wheel or, on bikes with ABS, make the system step in early. Squeeze progressively, and the fork settles, the tyre gains grip and the brake can then work at full strength.
On a CB500X loaded with luggage or carrying a passenger this matters even more, because there is more weight to shift and more energy to absorb. Practise the sequence somewhere safe: take up the slack in the lever, let the fork settle, then build the pressure smoothly. Disc and pads are part of this. A disc with an uneven surface, grooves or a warp gives a lumpy feel that makes a smooth squeeze difficult. Check it for grooves, cracks and thickness at every service and replace it if it is near the printed minimum. Accossato recommends a change somewhere between thirty and forty thousand kilometres, sooner if the disc shows wear; a CB500X used for touring can cover that distance in a few seasons.
Fitment and Compatibility
For the CB500X, the DK230 is listed from 2013 to 2018, and the list stops there. In those years the bike carries one front disc, so a single DK230 is all it takes. On the controls side, Accossato names two brake levers, EDF018 and EDF025, and the ESH250 clutch lever. Clean the hub face before fitting, compare the new disc with the one you remove, and use Honda's torque figure for the disc bolts.
Road Approval
Without a documented German ABE or type approval, the DK230 is offered as a part for circuit use.
