DescriptionThe whole story▼
Every new front tyre on a Ducati Monster 1200 means the wheel comes out, and that is the easiest moment to look closely at discs, bearings and rim. Riders who use the big Monster the way it invites, briskly and often, go through front tyres at a steady rate, so the opportunity comes round regularly. For the Monster 1200 of 2014 to 2021, Accossato offers the DK053 in place of an original front disc: a floating design with a black carrier, measuring 320 mm across with a 4.5 mm friction ring.
Key Features
- Floating front disc for the Ducati Monster 1200, 2014 to 2021
- Outer diameter 320 mm, inner diameter 72 mm
- 4.5 mm thickness
- Black carrier, friction ring fixed with rivets
- Interchangeable with the original equipment disc
- Minimum working thickness printed on the disc
- One disc per order; two are needed
- No German ABE documented, for track use
Construction and Material Quality
In the plainest sense of the word, the DK053 floats: a black carrier bolts to the wheel, a friction ring surrounds it, and rivets between the two give the ring a fraction of free play. That freedom keeps the heat that builds up in the ring from twisting the rest of the disc. The disc locates on a 72 mm bore, and Accossato describes it as a direct replacement for the disc Ducati fitted. The lowest thickness at which it may still be used is printed on it, and Accossato warns that a disc worn below that figure can break under extreme stress.
When the Wheel Is Out Anyway
With the front wheel of the Monster 1200 on the bench, measure both discs and look for cracks, then try each floating ring with your fingers: it should move only very slightly on its rivets. Turn the wheel bearings with a finger; they should run smoothly, without roughness or play. Look along the rim for dents and check the valve while the tyre is off. Should the readings be near the printed minimum, this is the moment to change the discs, because the wheel is already out and nothing has to be taken apart twice. Doing both jobs in one visit also saves a second wheel removal later in the season.
Fitment and Compatibility
Monster 1200 models from 2014 to 2021 are the ones Accossato names for the DK053. There are two front discs on this bike, and the price is for one. The thicker DKS053 is Accossato's other disc for the Monster 1200, and the brand lists several levers for it as well: EDF099, ESH011, LV013, LV015 and RA002.
Road Approval
Use it on the circuit: the DK053 comes with no German ABE and no documented type approval.
