DescriptionThe whole story▼
Much of the craft of riding a Yamaha YZ250 lives in the left hand. A 250 two-stroke pulls hardest in the upper part of its rev range, and when a slow corner drags the engine below that point, a quick slip of the clutch is what wakes it up again before the next straight. Riders on the YZ250 work the clutch lever constantly, far more than most four-stroke riders ever do. Accossato's answer for the 2015 to 2022 bikes is the C7266: a folding clutch lever cut from Ergal 7075, with a long blade drawn for four fingers and a joint between blade and base.
Key Features
- Folding clutch lever for the Yamaha YZ250 two-stroke, 2015 to 2022
- Fits the original clutch perch in place of the stock lever
- Long blade laid out for four fingers
- Anti-break joint allows the blade to fold forward if the bike goes down
- Milled in Italy from solid Ergal 7075
- Blade in black or blue, base in a dark finish
- Supplied as a single lever
- No German ABE documented; for motocross and off-road use
Construction and Material Quality
On the left of the bar Accossato uses its longer blade, with space for four fingers, so the C7266 has a different outline from the short brake lever opposite. Material and method are the same: solid Ergal 7075, one of the high-strength aluminium alloys, shaped on CNC machines in Italy with the aim of a part that is strong, light and reliable. The lever comes in two pieces. Its dark base stays on the pivot at the clutch perch, and the black or blue blade hangs from a joint on that base. When the bike falls, the blade is the part that can move out of the way.
Slipping the Clutch Out of Slow Corners
A 250 two-stroke does not like being lugged. Let the revs sink too far in a tight turn and the YZ250 answers with a flat, spluttering pause before the power comes back, often just when you need drive to climb out of a rut or up a jump face. Good riders avoid that by keeping a finger or two on the lever through the turn, slipping the clutch briefly as they open the throttle so that the engine spins up into its stronger range, and then letting it out fully. It is a small movement, repeated at nearly every slow corner on every lap.
Yamaha operates the YZ250's clutch by cable, so a smooth, well-lubricated cable and the correct free play at the lever make that repeated slipping feel the same from the first lap to the last; both are worth checking whenever the lever is changed. The lever itself is most at risk in the very corners where it works hardest. When a rut closes up or the front washes out at walking pace, the bike tends to fall to the inside, and in a left-hander that puts the clutch side on the ground. The C7266's joint gives the blade the possibility of folding forward rather than breaking, so there is a fair chance you can pick the bike up, pull the lever and carry on.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the C7266 for the Yamaha YZ250 from 2015 to 2022, mounted at the original clutch perch. The partner on the right-hand side is the folding B8265 brake lever for the same model years, made in black, blue or green. If you want both sides to match, choose black or blue, the two colours this clutch lever comes in.
Road Approval
The C7266 has no German ABE on record. It is supplied for motocross and for riding on closed off-road ground.
