DescriptionThe whole story▼
Many cross-country races begin in silence. A row of riders sits on bikes with the engines off, and when the flag drops for that row they fire up, click into gear and fight for a gap into the trees. On the KTM 250 XC it is the left hand that decides how cleanly the two-stroke leaves the line. For the 250 XC of 2006 to 2022, Accossato makes the C7283, whose long blade gives all four fingers a place on that release and can hinge clear if the first turn ends in a pile-up.
Key Features
- Folding clutch lever for the KTM 250 XC, model years 2006 to 2022
- Accossato lists it for the 2006–2013 and the 2014–2022 bikes
- Fits the original clutch control on the left of the handlebar
- Long blade, sized by Accossato for four fingers
- Joint lets the blade fold forward in a fall rather than break
- Milled from solid Ergal 7075 in Italy
- Blade in black, blue, orange or red on a dark base
- No German ABE on record; for off-road and racing use
Construction and Material Quality
Pick up a C7283 and the first thing you notice is the length of the blade: Accossato draws its off-road clutch levers long, so that four fingers fit on them side by side. Behind that blade sits a dark base, which stays on the clutch pivot and carries the hinge. Both pieces are machined in Italy from solid Ergal 7075, a high-strength aluminium alloy, rather than cast. Accossato explains the choice with three aims, strength, low weight and reliability, and offers the blade in black, blue, orange or red.
Engines Off, Row by Row
A dead-engine start rewards a routine. Before the flag, experienced riders run through it in their heads: fire the engine, clutch in, first gear, drive. When their row goes, that sequence takes a second or two, and the clutch is where a two-stroke either hooks up or spins. Release it too quickly and the rear tyre buries itself or the front wheel climbs; too slowly and several riders are already ahead at the tree line. With four fingers on a long blade, the release is easier to meter than with two fingertips hooked over the end.
The first turn is often where it all goes wrong, because a whole row of bikes wants the same line. Someone clips a rear wheel, a bike goes down, and the riders behind stack into it. In that tangle the left side of a 250 XC may end up under another machine or jammed against a root. A conventional lever can snap there. On the C7283 the blade can hinge forward out of the way, which gives it a real chance of coming through, and once the traffic clears you can pull the clutch, restart the 250 XC and chase the pack instead of retiring in the first minute.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato's list covers the KTM 250 XC in two stretches, 2006 to 2013 and 2014 to 2022, and the C7283 fits the original clutch mount in both. On the right, the B8283 brake lever is available for bikes from 2014 to 2022; older bikes can be fitted on the clutch side only. Of the four blade colours here, red is the one the brake lever does not offer.
Road Approval
No German ABE is on file for the C7283. It is sold for racing and off-road riding, and it is not approved for use on public roads.
