That is a manufacturer's claim about paddocks rather than an independent measurement, and on its own it says nothing about a road-registered Trident 800. Something real does cross over from that world, though, and it is not lap time. It is the service model. In a paddock nobody buys an air filter between sessions — somebody pulls it out, blows it through and puts it back. The SM301S F1-85 brings that routine to a roadster: dry woven polyester at 85 µm, rated 15,000 l/m²/sec, spun from threads of ø 22 microns and upward.

Key Features

Dry woven polyester, threads from ø 22 microns, aperture opened out to 85 µm

15,000 l/m²/sec — three times the rate of the standard road and track medium

The highest retention Sprint Filter publishes for its road media: 95.22 % on 100 µ particles

Not oiled at any stage, so nothing transferable travels downstream to the sensor

Around double the filtering surface of other performance filters, in the untouched series airbox

Fits the standard airbox without modification or remapping; two-year warranty from purchase

What crosses over from a paddock

A race team treats the air filter as equipment, not as stock. It comes out between sessions, gets cleaned, goes back in, and the same element finishes the weekend it started. That is the part a road rider can genuinely adopt, because it changes the shape of ownership: inspecting the intake stops meaning a purchase, so it actually gets done. Over the years a Trident 800 will be kept, that difference is worth more than any of the numbers above.

What does not cross over

The flow rating is redeemed only by an engine held near the top of its range, repeatedly. Ridden on the road, this machine goes there for seconds at a time. It should be said flatly: a drop-in element does not make a series motorcycle noticeably stronger, and this one is no exception. It also sits at the open end of a trade — a finer medium retains more and flows less, a coarser one does the reverse — so a share of the fine fraction that a tighter weave would hold is passed through by design.

Care and cleaning

Keep the SM301S F1-85 in service with compressed air applied to the clean side and driven outwards through the weave. After a hard season, wash it in lukewarm water with a mild detergent, rinse it until the water runs clear and let it dry in open air — never with heat, never near a flame — before it goes back into a dry airbox. No oil is used at any point. The maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab.

Fitment & Compatibility

Catalogued for the Triumph Trident 800 of 2026. The Tiger Sport 800 shares the standard element of this family, but Sprint Filter lists this racing medium for the Trident alone.
